Ok from the new shots this does not appear to be a tier 1 or even a Tier 2 supplier.
This appears to be one of the many shops that scan OEM cars attachment points and reverse engineer facia designs for cars. A tier one supplier would not have painted bumpers sitting on a rack like that. The bumpers would be either in raw plastic or primed. I've been at suppliers that also make bmw parts and this I can guarantee is not it. Most bumpers will not be painted till it is at the production factory and test mules are built at the factory. These are more than likely for another car or even maybe not even a bmw. Theirs tons of bumpers that aftermarket sells to make your 500 dollar beater look like a bmw with a "BMW style" bumper. In this photo you can see the exact same storage shelves.... as in the new photos so rest assured guys this is not an OEM bumper |

I've been staring at what seems to be some writing on the right of the bumper in the third pic trying to see if there's anything to decipher from it. The first hand written part in the upper left seems to say G - 57, but it might actually be G - 87 since it's a bad angle. Just beneath it looks like an F? I've got problems.

Denial is futile. I think Scott pretty much confirmed this is the real thing. Whether we like it or not, we'll see how it fits the car.
I like the new, frameless grill and headlights better, it's all those square intakes that are confusing and look out of place. But yep, this pretty much is the real thing. |

Chinese also sell the so-called “BMW conversion kits”, basically a fake BMW bumper/grille that fits on one of their domestic vehicles or even older BMW models. Maybe it’s one of those??

Indeed, good investigative job, but looking at the camo pics, you can see square patterns and other small details that seem to correspond to what we see here. I think this is it. I'd be glad if I'm mistaken(even though I like the upper part) but I think we're gonna be disappointed yet again.

These tools are only Good for a few parts and they are cheap. The Chinese companies do what they do and take the data and pass it under the table sometimes then run with it and you get copies. It's not supposed to happen but it does. These are probably the fake panels that bmw would use to slap on the car during testing. It doesn't have the refinement that you normally see. I work as a designer at an oem and we do the same thing. These companies thrive on stuff like this and it's cheap for them. As others have said the headlights don't even match up and bmw is not usually a fan of creating separate headlights for just an M model as it's a lower production vehicle and headlights cost in the millions to develop. It's one of the most expensive items on the car. I've posted videos before showing how they use fake panels to throw people off and then people are shocked when it's different. They control what the viewer sees. They know what their doing. And we in the design studio get a kick reading forums and seeing what people come up with. A supplier will not have a bunch of painted bumpers laying around like you see in this pic. And also test mules are rarely painted unless it's a face lift but all new are usually just black. It's hard to understand unless you work at a supplier and or are an OEM who deals with this everyday but for the most part I would bet you money that this will show up on either a non bmw or something else. If the headlights where the same shape then I'd have a harder time arguing with you but if you know the market I'd bet you money this isn't it. But hey I'd be fine being wrong as you can coin it up to another failed design. It doesn't go with any of bmws new design language so again I'd be surprised. |

[QUOTE=-c-;27801283]Yes but I can't speak for bmw but we use China to make our fake panels as they use cheap tooling that we coin prototype tools.

No reason to doubt you bro, I hope you are right but nothing is guaranteed with BMW these days and if you read between the lines, Scott doesn't necessarily deny it. Anyway let's fear for the worst but hope for the best |

Ok that settles it crisis averted, for reference here’s the equivalent camo shots of the g8x with the prototype bumper - note the square inlets and flat characterless design
https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...C_XlA&usqp=CAU And here it is with camo and production bumper - noting a much richer design graphic- there’s no way that 2D style bumper is going to production https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...fvLQA&usqp=CAU |
