If you like the E36 design I think it is very difficult to be attracted by the G87. IMO only the E46 M3 design was able to combine purity and (some ) aggressivity.
Exhibit A - When estrogen levels peak and we're comparing 20 and 30yr old designs with a 2023 M car release and subsequently whine about decreased "purity" and "agressivity".

Honestly if you don't see lots of cues from the E30 in the G87 you need your eyes checked. The side profile is near identical but yes the front and rear or more modern. Show me a BMW that has headlights or taillights from 10 years ago.

I had an E36 M3 for 10 years. Loved that car. But that was 20 years ago. I don't live in the past. I really like the G87 design and the full M tech.

I was a staunch supporter of ZB until I saw it in person at BMW PC reveal. My order changed to BG, which was my second choice for my G42 and Portimao Blue first. PB is much better than ZB, so it would be hard for me to step down.

Same, ZB was my first choice but too many of the pics and people's accounts have swayed me awsy. I love Porsche's Chalk and Audi's Nardo Gray, so BG it is. And will be perfect for the rims I want to get (Vossen CG205T in merlot).

My '23 M240 is in TNM.

I feel like whenever someone comes out with some edgy comment defending it that they may want to remember this is a discussion forum mainly populated by people who come from a different era of BMW design (an era of restraint and functional design). As for who is insecure.. Nobody is saying YOU made a bad decision. Keep that in mind.

As for the design, I'd love to hear someone defend the inconceivably bizarre gloss black reflector chunks on the rear. Didn't see those on the "e30".

That’s literally not the point. I don’t care who does and doesn’t buy a car. You have people who spam these pages with negativity and it is literal garbage. You can click the people’s post where they spam the same comment 😭😂. Don’t take it personal

What part are you referring to? If it's the vertical reflectors below the taillights, I much prefer the more intentional, aggressive approach on the G87 that encapsulates both the reflector and the reverse sensor to the blobby F87 rear bumper.

Well, they also didn't have cameras...and the new one is a technology powerhouse. So yeah, that.

I obviously don't. Then again I don't call opposing viewpoints on a discussion board "literal garbage". Maybe admins should stop f8x posts hitting the front page so those with a deposit can avoid being upset by discussions on what is, by any objective metric, a step change and highly polarizing design. Glad you love it.

What is this "objective" metric you speak of?

I believe you meant G8x? I think the design is more polarizing than it should be because of the beaver tooth precedent.

I don't get it. The f87 and g80/2 have similar little vertical reflectors on the rear quarters, as do other models. Are they more pronounced on the g87? Yep. But it's not like this is the first BMW that has it. Heck I'm surprised folks haven't criticized the rooftop antenna yet.

With its compact dimensions, inline-6-cylinder engine, manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive and an advanced operating concept, the BMW M2 Coupé is the ultimate .

Really? They both have the same square, blocky front end design (which, by the way, was not universally popular back in the day).
