The old 2006 Z06 is so damn cheap and affordable, takes nothing more than some coil overs, cam and heads, and you have a track weapon. Viper is the better car, but my finances would distaste some compromise unfortunately. lol Plus who wants to drive around on the street in a car that you'll see 3 of on your way to Starbucks? Having a Z06 as a track rat would kind of be the best of both worlds between the 2 cars. They were already running the sport cups on the 2013 Zr1. Those tires are nuts. Agreed on the cost and availability of aftermarket upgrades being a factor, but these two statements I left makes it very clear that you and I value very different things when it comes to the cars we drive. If you have a car that you can't come even remotely close to experiencing its potential on the road AND you're not willing to drive it on the track, you're wasting both your money and a car IMHO. Of course lots of rich people do that with exotics, but that doesn't make it any less sad. Given the number and variety of cars out there, I don't see the point of either keeping a Viper as a road-only car or having both a Viper and a Z06. If I'm to have two performance monsters, I'd rather there be a larger difference between them.

Like I said, I've owned Vettes and they are not DD'able in my mind. |

Now that silver Z06 is a lot more what I had in mind. Not a fan of yellow cars and black wheels personally. To be honest I've never been a fan of gray/silver cars either (especially performance cars) since they've always seemed so common/drab/boring to me, but I don't like the Corvette blues on offer at the moment, and when I saw a Cyber Gray C7 it looked like Lou Ferrigno wearing Armani, so sign me up!
The yellow car looks to be wearing the top-spec Z07 aero package, judging by the rear spoiler having the see-through center section. That's good news to me since I knew I didn't want the Z07 package (Cup tires wear out way too fast for a DD, and carbon ceramic brakes are still misfits on both the road and track for various reasons unless you really, REALLY hate brake dust), and that aero setup looks a bit much for me for a DD. The mid-spec might be ok as long as the smaller winglets don't extend too far out beyond the side of the car, otherwise they could be a real nightmare when parking, especially on a hill where you have to curb your wheels. As for it not being manual-only anymore, I see that as both driven by the desire to sell more cars (which should keep pricing down) and also because GM is trying to make the Corvette appeal more to non-US markets, especially the Euro market. Outside the US, manual transmissions are seen as the econobox option. They're popular on regular cars there because cars are a lot more expensive in general, and thus so is the automatic transmission option. But on luxury and performance cars, in the Euro market DCT/auto is preferred because it's seen as a status symbol and also because frankly DCT is objectively faster than a manual -- which is precisely why the M5 is only available in manual form here. I understand the logic, and I'm simply grateful that they didn't pull a GT3 and drop the manual completely. As for it being a slushbox rather than a DCT, we'll just have to see how it behaves. But the only truly bad thing I'm reading about this car is that it won't be available for a year.

Did anyone read up or mention the 8AT 8L90 they're using? They're claiming that it'll shift fractionally quicker than a PDK unit... damn that's impressive for a torque converter-based trans.

Yeah there is a full write up about it on the previous page. I also saw a write up as to why they went Auto instead of DCT. I think they will ship a ton of Auto units to older guys. Good move IMO. The more they sell the more they can dump into the next models.

LOL. That is not even remotely comparable. It might sound crazy to someone that hasn't had to do it, but once you spend a few days driving around in a car that is as much of a hassle to get in and out of as a Vette/Viper/(GT-R possibly too?) Then you would get why people don't DD them. It sounds trivial but honestly it sucks and becomes very cumbersome.
