So took the car to dyno today, and, well, it was embarrassing.
Turns out my Dahler piggyback was running stock (comfort) tune. When I installed it, as per Kies and manufacturer, it should default to race (tuned) mode, so I didn’t bother with the Bluetooth app to confirm.
Butt dyno said it’s working. Crazy placebo effect. Lesson learned.
First 2 runs with piggyback hooked up, next 2 runs with piggyback physically bypassed. Identical results.
Have since sorted it out so it’s definitely on now. I’ll go back and re-dyno later this week.

Makes 492hp super consistently without tune, with intake/downpipes/midpipe.

How much do you think the intake/downpipes/midpipe are adding?

Did you previously perform a baseline dyno?

Did not. They may or may not add anything. They’re sound mods in my book. Was more interested in what the piggyback is adding which I’ll have to go back and find out.
I’m no dyno expert. My first time. New experience and all.
The noise was spectacular. Crazy how it’s nothing like raving it out in neutral.
I also learned there is a dyno mode available in our cars.

This is just one number on one dyno machine so I understand its relative lack of meaning. The unit was Dynocom, for what it’s worth.
I did learn car is extremely consistent, within 2hp on 4 runs. I also learned that my piggyback was doing nothing at all.
Now that I have the Dahler piggyback sorted out I’ll go back to see true relative change, which is best use of any dyno.
Having the Dahler finally working, the car did frighten me a bit today. Quickly learned more judicious use of throttle.

Today I didn’t do anything to my M2 other than question whether or not this will be my one and only BMW I will ever own.

I knew the price of admission to the BMW game. I knew it would cost me more than other cars. I was not upset by that as I have only owned German cars since I was 18.

What I did not know was how incredibly dumb some things are that have to do be done to keep it from being a heap on the side of the road and how dumb some items were designed on this car.

1) Having a stereo system in a $70k car that sounds subpar to a stereo system in a $36k GTI. The Fender system in my 2019 GTI blew the H&K system out of the water. No quality loss at high volume and a subwoofer that punched my in the sternum and ear holes if I wanted it to.

2) Having to provide my own protection for the radiators and oil cooler or a small pebble will take out my engine. Fine. $600 worth of parts to do what the factory should have done. Whatever. Would I have rather spent that on other modifications? 100 percent, but fine. Parts ordered.

3) Havng to buy OEM BMW washer fluid or your pump and nozzles will fail. WTF.
Yes, I know in the end it cost no more than normal fluid, but come on.

I’m sorry my dudettes and dudes. Just a little frustrated as I had the car for all of 2 weeks before having to store it for the winter. It’s currently sitting in my garage with 500 miles on the clock. It hurts to see it sitting there, not being driven while I make a somewhat large payment on it.

I just really hope when I am able to drive it in the spring that I can overlook the annoyances.

I know people will rag on this post, but I list want know that it will be worth it at some point. I want to know that it wa smart to pass up my RS3 allocation in favor of this car. This was my second attainable dream car. My first dream car was an 2004 R32 and while the M2 could run circles around it, it has some big shoes to fill and so far I can’t get my foot into it.

1) My car was ordered in July and delivered in the beginning of October around the 10th. It went straight to the detail shop for a week for PPF and Cermaic Coat. Stored in the 3rd week of October (thought I did it too early, but it ended up snowing 2 inches 3 days after I stored it). I think that’s the other thing that’s annoying me; we haven’t had much snow since then. We are typically at 20 - 30 inches of snow fall by this point in the year and currently we had bare grass and less than 3 inches total. It just isn’t warm enough to drive on the summers. Good to hear that the stereo gets better. I will still probably end up getting the Bav Sound subs.

3) yep. I was just made aware of this by my friend who just purchased a preowned 840i. He fell in love with my M2 and has wanted to own something BMW since. He’s gone into deep end of forums and read about the washer fluid. I couldn’t believe it at first either, but there are a ton of posts about it here. To add insult to injury, it’s a consentrate. You can’t seem to even buy a premixed gallons. Wild stuff.

#1 Subpar in what way? What are your metrics? I'll bet we could put 100 people blindly in the VW and BMW to rate which sounds "better" and the results would be wildly inconsistent across tests.

#2 Radiators have been exposed for over 100 years on cars. Don't believe the exposed cooler doomsday hype.

#3 It sounds like you're just trying to find stuff to be upset about with this one.

You keep mentioning the cost and payment compared to your cheaper VW. Just make sure you're not conflating your feelings about that with actual complaints of the car.

Oh, and you've probably tried this, but if you haven't - the sound is completely flat until you go into the sound settings and boost the bass and treble. I couldn't even hear the subwoofer until I boosted the low end.

It is really only fluids with additives that claim to enhance water shedding that are an issue, not just with BMWs either. They tend to block very fine nozzles and contaminate level sensors. Any ethanol/methanol based washer fluid with just a detergent added shouldn’t be a problem.

1) I mentioned it above: there’s loss in the quality at higher volumes levels and the bass is non existent comparatively. Like someone else said, it might just need to break in.

2) you are correct. I did buy into the doom and gloom and purchased the Zumsport grills. Yes, grills have been exposed for years, but these are ver exposed.

3) believe me, I don’t want to look for stuff to be upset about. The oem washer fluid is just wild. Super finicky.

Price and payment: as I said, I knew this would be a more expensive car and a had to pay to play. I’m not upset at my monthly, I pay a very, very reasonable payment for a 70k car thanks to the amount I sold my R32 for last summer, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t feel like a waste as times knowing that I am paying for it to jus occupy garage space.

I also just expected a 70k car to have a better stereo than it does and have a little more protection than it does. My wife and are DINKs and make very good money, but we still like to have our money go a long way.

I am most likely conflating the way I feel about the car not because of price, but because I’m sitting here looking t a and not driving it. Just frustrated currently (the grey weather for the last 4 weeks isn’t helping).

I have. The Wilkins profile setting helped about as well. I will end up with the Bav woofers I’m sure.

DoomsDay Hype - Dont believe the owners and the engines being replaced/repaired and the associated down time and cost. You are delusional. The cost to mitigate is far lower than losing one side front radiator. Please keep giving out great advice lol. Believe it or not the world is actually NOT FLAT LOL!

Man, my radio in my M2 sounds awesome. I couldn’t be happier. So I am either losing my sense of hearing or you have heard the Rolls Royce of sound systems in your previous cars.

My advice is simply to not freak out about things that are statistical anomalies.

It's like being afraid to fly. Yes, planes crash, but statistically it's quite rare.

If I start seeing more threads pop up with similar failures I will change my mind.

Looks great, man. Very tasteful.

Do you have a full parts list somewhere, and perhaps some shots of the front / sides?

She took a rock to the face (windshield). Impact mark plus about a 4inch crack creeping from driver side towards passenger. Time to jump through the hoops to get the replacement scheduled since it takes a bit longer to also get the glass to my shop first to have the film applied to it before the installer comes out.
