CarPlay Nav constantly off

Seems to be a common issue with iD8 on the other boards, but just wanted to log it here too. On board Nav is always correct, but Google Maps and Waze are, at some point in my drive, nearly always putting me on an adjacent street, in a field, in a lake...

Are you saying the GPS is out of SYNC?

Have you tried calibrating your phone's GPS.

You have to remember when using Google / Waze that GPS positioning is done via the phone and not the cars GPS. Factors like where the phone is sitting age OS updates make a difference.

I use Android Auto on a fold 4 and have no issues with GPS positioning using waze.

Yes, the gps is out of sync. Phone GPS is perfectly fine until it connects to carplay. It usually resolves when I reset idrive

This was really driving me crazy. Found a solution. Had to restart Waze on my phone while CarPlay was active/connected. All good now, at least for my drive in

I've had my car for a couple weeks now and have had this same problem since day one.

The BMW navigation works but Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze via CarPlay have a 50/50 chance of working. When not working, it displays my locations as right or left of where I should be on the road and then constantly recalculates. I spoke with my sales rep and he said his phone was doing the same thing in the M340i he was driving.

I have tried restarting my phone, restarting the navigation app on my phone, and hard resetting the BMW display by pressing the volume button for 10-15 seconds which generally solves the problem until it happens again.

Assuming my phone is being used for GPS location, I've tried placing my phone in several different positions and places with no noticeable change. I've also used this phone with CarPlay in other cars without this problem.

I had gone a month with no issue and it happened again last week. I deleted my phone from the car, drove around unconnected for a day, then added the phone from scratch and it's back working. I had thought maybe a phone/iOS update had resolved it but no dice. It always gets disjointed when I drive through a patch of interference where carplay disconnects

Super super frustrating when it happens and won't resolve itself

I am not sure if this is a bmw thing, but rather an Apple car play issue. I had similar issues on my Camaro before where on Waze it would never show the correct speed I was doing, or the position on the map wasn’t correct.

Occasionally Waze simply wouldn’t even start, so I would have to close the app by swiping up and then select it again.

Same thing happens to me, pretty much every time. It's got me using the built-in nav. I thought it was an issue with my phone and came close to scheduling an appointment at the Genius Bar, until my fiance and I switched cars for a day. The issue stayed with the car, not with the phone. Interesting.

I have seen the same issue! For what it’s worth, starting a navigation in Apple Maps directly from my phone has been accurate, but the issue seems to occur when I start a navigation through the CarPlay interface.

After another month+ of being totally fine, it reared its ugly head again yesterday. Even totally disconnnecting the phone/removing the device overnight and reconnecting this morning didn't help. It was immediately incorrect again

Super annoying. I have had this issue since delivery in Jan, and had to use the BMW Nav which is not as intuitive comparing to CarPlay nav (Google or Apple).

This reddit post even provided a SIB but according to the reply below, local dealership just won't do anything about it. Don't know when do we can have a solution.

Not sure if it's true for you but it's always drifting west for me.

We both own the 2022 M240i with ID7, this is an issue exclusively with ID8.

New M2 with iDrive 8. Same issue.

It works fine around my house, but loses accuracy as I approach work, about 12 miles away. As I approach my house, it goes back to normal.

This would happen occasionally but got really bad in the last couple of weeks. I was on the way to a place I’d never been and despite turning the car on and off a couple of times, restarting my phone, resetting the iDrive by holding the power button, etc, I could NOT get it to fix itself. Almost had to call my wife for directions lol. Anyways, I think it’s an issue with the phone. I updated to the latest iOS a couple days ago and haven’t had the issue again since (fingers crossed).
