Do we know if this will have limited function on the new idrive software in 2025 models? I know Bimmercode got nerfed a bit by the new software.

Does anyone know of a G42 owner that has purchased this. Not sure what it can do on that vehicle. Any input canDO_stef?

canDO+ supports the G42 and there are a few out there. The main differences are no M1/M2 buttons, so no Triggers, same for "M Mode", "Drift Mode", "Track Mode". On the G42, you instead get Actions for Sport Mode Sport Plus Mode Sport Individual Mode Eco Mode Eco Individual Mode The rest of the functionality is the same. If you are in the US, distribution is handled by Kies Motorsports, and afaik, their stock is G8X, so you have two choices: ask them to update the FW to G4X, or place the order and contact us for instructions specific to the G8X->G4X FW update. It's pretty easy either way! |

Turns out that iDrive 8.5 doesn't code the same way as 8.0 for heated seats, so a custom action is required.
Stef over at canDO was very helpful and together via online chat figured it out. We were even able to figure out the Heated steering wheel action for 8.5. Stef told me canDO would work on these findings for a future Firmware update. (I'm currently using v1.7.2) The customer service and speed of communication is top notch. So, for those with canDO and 8.5 that would like to have heated seats and steering wheel associations these are the actions you would need to add (you can name them anything you like). Driver Heat 3: 209#FFFFFFFFF8FFFFFF Driver Heat 2: 209#FFFFFFFFF7FFFFFF Driver Heat 1: 209#FFFFFFFFF6FFFFFF Driver Heat Off: 209#FFFFFFFFF5FFFFFF Passenger Heat 3: 209#FFFFFFFFFFF8FFFF Passenger Heat 2: 209#FFFFFFFFFFF7FFFF Passenger Heat 1: 209#FFFFFFFFFFF6FFFF Passenger Heat Off: 209#FFFFFFFFFFF5FFFF Steering Heat On: 214#FFFF8FFFFFFFFFFF Steering Heat Off: 214#FFFF5FFFFFFFFFFF

New iDrive 8.5 firmware is now available with fixes for heated seats, and additional functionality for heated steering wheel.
Please contact us if you have iDrive 8.5 for instructions for this update. An extra step, this time only, is required to pick up iD8.5-specific firmware. Stef |

Does anyone know whether you can use this at the same time as an AIM Solo2 DL plugged into the CAN-bus? From BMW DIY Guy's install video of this canDO+, it appears this plugs in by the transmission, while in dirtyfreebooter's install he plugs the AIM Solo2 DL into the CAN-bus by the passenger footwell. My goal is to be able to hit M1 at the track and go into track mode, while also recording throttle and brake data into the AIM.
Working with the CAN-bus is all new to me so figured someone may know right off the bat. Thank you! |

----------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for reaching out to us! I appreciate your inquiry regarding the configuration of our device for your 2023 G87 M2. I’m pleased to confirm that our controllers can indeed be configured to actuate the exhaust flap. You will have the ability to set it to fully open or return to the factory closed position with the press of an assigned button. This flexibility allows you to customize your driving experience to your preference. If you have any further questions or need assistance with the setup, please feel free to reach out. We're here to help! Cheers, Gary Seagrave III General Manager Kies Motorsports ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A bit confusing given the response from Stef at CanDo. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As far as we can tell, there is no way without additional hardware. ....but on that subject, stay tuned! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last edited by Trogster; 03-12-2025 at 04:28 PM.. |

Stef = manufacturer rep Gary = dealer rep (Kies distributes canDO+ units in the U.S.) Stef is far, far more likely to be right. Just sayin'.

Stef says there is no direct control of the flaps. He is correct. However perhaps he isn’t aware of indirect methods to control the flaps, which perhaps Kies is aware of. For example: perhaps with the car in track mode or sport + the flaps are automatically open and with the car in comfort, the flaps are closed. So maybe Kies has in mind using the CanDo+ to change that mode. Of course it wouldn’t be possible to close the flaps in track mode or open them in comfort. |

I can say with 100% assurance that there is (currently!) no way for our device to fully open the exhaust flaps. |

Installed my canDO+ last weekend. A few notes:
- Removing the center trim on a ZF8 is, indeed, a challenge. I can confirm that the LCI trim has two lock tabs at the front instead of three on pre-LCI cars. The trick is getting under the front trim edge with a thin, stiff tool (metal trim tool or similar, or a small screwdriver with a thin shaft) to release those lock tabs first, before lifting the sides and rear up. (I didn't do this, and popped five retainer tabs that hold the plastic frame to the CF getting the trim out) - Unplugging the iDrive controller is not easy; the female plug is very tight. I had to spend a couple of minutes wiggling it side to side with my fingers before it finally popped off. - Best way/place to mount the module is using industrial Velcro on top of a silver control box in the rear of the console cavity; that way, the module can be accessed/extracted by popping off the front of the center armrest storage area only, without having to remove the center consile trim again. - Browser-based WiFi WLAN interface is convenient and nice, but slow; it takes up to 15 seconds for a 'view' to populate visually after making selections. Also, some settings saved to flash memory would be lost when 'dragging' multiple steps within a Trigger sequence to reorder the sequence, probably because of the slow connection. - Using delays in sequences is mandatory in places. For 'Engine Start', I had to use a 1-second delay to get M Sport Mode to 'take' consistently, and the same to get both 'Steering Sport' and 'Brakes Sport' to both 'take' as default Setup choices. After all of that, my car now starts in M Sport Mode (with the requisite gauge and HUD clusters), with steering and brakes in Sport, and the climate control set to air on and Very Low fan ... and I have the 'Back' and 'Option' controller buttons set up to be touch-activated toggles for M Road and M Sport modes, respectively. Will play with more settings in the coming weeks ...
