I've testdriven a few cars, g23 m440i, g23 m430, g42 m240i, older gen and "many" other brand/models with heated steering, I haven't found one that is actually warm all around the steering. Some has
different heat levels and it doesn't do anything. Mostly just the top or bottom is heated.

I want motorcycle heated handlebar type of heating. I want my hands to burn.

Any reason why you didn't code it in and used a BT receiver? (Didn't know that was a thing)

I guess I have finally reached a point where I need to start a build thread...

Washed the car and got some pics in decent lighting this morning. Not the prettiest backdrop though!

You’re in a car not exposed to wind chill etc. it’s there to help until the car is warm enough to not need it. I think you’re expecting something more than was intended.

Not to be combative but how much markup do you think is in any retail product?

$50 material, $30 labor to make, margin is 75%, not including cost of shipping and overhead.

Most consumer products where the companies dont go out of business have a minimum of a 75% gross margin (or 4x cost selling price)

Yes you can make your own for cheaper if you have the skill, but thats not true of everyone and you might not do as well if you DIY.

I’d say $200-250 would be more reasonable but I guess you gotta price it to make profit.

You won't find one listed for the G42 but the one for a G20 3 / 4 series is a direct fit including the aperture for the USBC connector.

You still have storage space underneath the tray to keep your less important stuff.

Well, my recently installed spoiler is already starting to come away and the way it's mounted (right at the lip of the trunk, not any area on top of the trunk) probably means it's not going to stay in place anyways, plus if I'm honest it's a little too long from a side view. Sooo I guess what I'm asking is, is the TRE one really worth the $400? Oh
Plans to ceramic coat it or anything? I'm worried paying that much for something that will probably delaminate in the Houston sun

There's a reason why the TRE ID-01 is very popular. It's well made and high visual quality. As for protecting from UV there's products out there to protect cf, idk how well they work.

I have the ID-01 but I also have had good luck with rw carbon parts. They have some options cheaper than 400 and are running a sale for 10% off.

Honestly....I said screw it and ordered it lol. I am literally wincing at the thought of removing that God forsaken 3M tape I just used for the spoiler a couple weeks ago, but it'll probably work with 3 hours of elbow grease + 3M adhesive remover.

Just removing the tar from behind my 240i badge took nearly an hour last weekend

I got my Tre-ID 01 on sale for $350 shipped. And I agree with Mech Spec. It is well made and high quality. MANY M2 guys and G42 guys are running the Tre-ID 01. I haven't came across a single instance where anyone had a problem.

As far as is it overpriced - well sometimes you have to pay up to get exactly what you want.

I did add a few layers of ceramic spray wax to the spoiler just to be on the safe side. I'm really happy with it.

And just curious, did you use alcohol or other polish stripper before you applied your spoiler? The paint surface needs to be completely clean to get the best adhesion. I made several passes with rubbing alcohol and a microfiber to get any wax or polish off.

This worked the best for me:

3M Adhesive Remover and plastic razor blade. You spray on, take a layer off, respray and take another layer off ....... about 5 times until it is all off.

No struggling, no dangerous drill, just take your time. Took me about 15 minutes until it was 100% off. And no scratches.

Its probably not going to be hard to remove the tape you just put on. The tape they send with the spoilers is not as strong as what bmw OEM uses.
