How not to crash my new M2 (Newbie)

So I just got my new M2 but don't know how to correctly control a rear wheel drive with that much horsepower. Any tips and tricks of what to do and what not to do? I just don't want to crash an expensive sports car. I admit that I am NOT experienced with sports cars soooo... I'm also still 17

Hard to crash if you keep traction control on. Don't turn off the nannies basically.

Book a day at M school.

Keep TC on.

Don't succumb to peer pressure to push it.

Good luck.

Kind of in a similar boat. Never really drove a rwd car in general. But I have driven cars in the 500-600 horsepower range. My plan is to keep TC on the whole time while on the street, and going to autocross events near me so I can learn how the car reacts to various throttle inputs.

I dunno, I just don't want to fishtail and wrap my car around a tree. I saved all my money for this car since I was 14 so, I really can't afford to total it.

As a dad of 2 sons, put your phone in the trunk and zero passengers in the back seat

For the record both my sons wrecked early on, 1 total loss (u turn in LA city) 1 $6k hole in the front running into the back of someone who didn’t merge (classic, the one you’ll probably do)

Try to autocross it. Unlike most racing, an autocross event costs $50 and is pretty low-risk (if you spin out you hit a cone instead of a tree). I don't know of a better/safer way to push the boundaries of traction and learn how your car handles.

A teenager in Calgary took his parents new F10 M5 to autocross some years ago without their permission and totalled it. Tried to recover the car by keeping his foot into the throttle and ended up totally out of control, going through a fence and over an embankment at high speed about 50 metres away from the course (which had plenty of safety margin to the nearest obstacles).

Garage List
Here is a very general guide to RWD car control:

Pretend there is a string tied to the bottom of your wheel and the top of your gas pedal. You can only press down on the gas all the way when the wheel is straight. As you turn the wheel, it will lift the gas a bit. So in the middle of the corner, your gas should be limited to your steering angle. As you come out of the corner and unwind the wheel, you should be able to progressively add more gas, but too much too soon and you oversteer.

If you manage to total a car in an empty parking lot you have no business on the road anyways.

I'm sure op will be fine, teen in an M5 is not the same as an adult in an M2 (especially since op bought the car and didn't steal it from their parents lmao).

Never underestimate the levels of stupidity any young male can ascend to, especially when trying to “impress” other people.

Don't do this:

https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cy07P...N2MnVzdGFzdA==

(Yes, I was trying to ragebait people on IG and it worked.)

Seriously though, if I was in your shoes, I'd drive like the car was in break in mode for 10,000 miles.

Never turn TC off.

Never floor it. Always roll into it.

Don't race ANYONE.

Don't let your friends drive your car from the passenger seat. You are responsible. If they want to see how fast an M2 is, tell them to buy one.

On the stock summer tires, be very careful driving in the rain. You will spin making turns at half throttle.

Don't floor it under any circumstances.

Change to All Season tires to help you in rain and cold weather.

Learn about the coefficient of friction, learn about your contact patch, and try to understand the physics behind what's keeping your car to the road. You'll learn, there isn't much there.

Do not floor it.

Do not drive the car if it's below 40 degrees out. You need to understand the chemical composition of your tires and their effectiveness in cold weather.

Never ever ever floor it.

Expect the car to spin.

Once you have at least 5,000 miles of driving the car under your belt, if you can, go to a giant empty parking lot when it's wet and intentionally try to lose and regain control of the car like you would on a skid pad. Learning to keep an out of control car near the center of the road will help you if you ever do lose control. Most people who crash do so because they don't know how to react when the car starts sliding.

Listen to your parents. They've lived a much longer life than you. They've experienced a hell of a lot more than you. Learn from their experiences and don't discount them because they're "boomers".

Please for the love of god, don't door it.

I'm actually 17 but I did buy the car myself as I get good money but I still live with my parents. I don't like to ride the car to it's limits, I just like the feeling of driving something that's really fast and maybe do a little pull or two on the highway. But I got you guys, never floor it and don't show off to friends. Also it's a manual so I won't be distracted by my phone cause my hands are busy.

The best advice is to get off the road as fast as you can so you're not endangering yourself or anyone else. Meaning, if you have to drive somewhere, do it full throttle, don't stop at red lights/stop signs, honk your horn constantly, don't bother with turn signals (this is a BMW, don't even know why they have them in the first place, open all windows and scream at the top of your lungs, oh and don't forget to keep your hands at 9 & 3 on the wheel.
