Heh, didn't realize they killed that thread, but probably good they did.

I'm picking up my car tomorrow after quite a bit of stress in the last couple months because of this tariff situation.

My advice is to place your order and try not to worry about it.

I bought my car on a handshake so I was never under any obligation, so I would also advise you to similarly make sure you have a way out should the situation sour after you order.

If we make this political it will get banned so let’s stay away from that and just keep it to the car.

But just because I can’t help myself, miso you’re views on tariffs are objectively wrong, could be why you’re in a z4 & not a G87. 🤷‍♂️

I ordered a 2025 G87 about 4 weeks ago, so probably another 6-8 weeks left until delivery. I had my salesman put in writing my deposit is refundable should any tariffs be applied. I'll let you know how I make out. My gut says everything will work out, just my 2 cents.

I love the M2, I love convertible driving even more though. As I said before, hopefully this all works out and peoples cars don’t see tariff add on prices.

We’ll know more with certainty in the next couple weeks as people are getting their cars. Mine is in transit and looks like it could be at the dealer before the EOM. I placed my order in December… it was in production by Jan 8th.

My dealer said that my pricing will be unchanged as the order was in well before tariffs were being proposed. We shall see.

I think the most likely scenario at the moment if reciprocal tariffs do come in on 2 Apr (USMCA compliant vehicles are only getting a tariff reprieve until then) is that car manufacturers just increase prices in the US to cover the tariff costs. There are really no vehicles that will avoid tariffs due to the parts sourcing being global, no matter where produced.

Likely car sales will drop from a volume perspective and a proportionate number of worker layoffs will happen.

The 33,000 figure above is about 9 percent of U.S. sales. Not insignificant, but also not a massive slice. 3 Series would account for about 70 percent of that, so that's only about 11k for the 2 Series.

Total NA sales for the 2 Series in 2024 was about 15,400 units, so roughly 4k were sold in Canada and Mexico. 2 Series sales were up 32 percent, while the 3 Series was down 8 percent.

Interesting ... but, ultimately, somewhat trivial. Ooof.

Theost likely scenario for BMW is to use all the volume in Mexico for the rest of the world for the 3 series and produce US cars in Germany unless there is a 25% tariffs on the EU.

If the tarrisf hold I see the M2 being unavailable in the US and the M4 being the car of choice.

I have not cancelled my order. It's a week 19-20 build. We shall see.

No offense but I can't see the M4 being the car of choice anywhere. Yes, it's a coupe but it sells the least when comparing the G80/82/87 (its fugly).

If nothing changes, the tariffs will hit the cars from Europe and the G80/82 will be priced up accordingly or BMW will do something to keep sales affordable and going in the US

Maybe BMW will upgrade the M2 with a proper manual and 550hp and sell it for $100k. I’d buy that in a heartbeat! If tariffs happen, there might be an opportunity to make the M2 more premium.

Not going to do a bit more asking around.
It's not impossible to shift production.

The Munich plant builds G2x and G8x already.
They already have the ability, how much and how long will it take?

I don't know if it's fugly. It's no worse than the M3 and rest of the 4 series line.

I'm not particularly interested in the M4 because I have an i4 M50 and it's just a coupe version of what I already have. The M2 although same platform looks different.

For me the M4 is an alternative with a high tariff. At almost $100k for an M2 the M4 becomes my choice. Better paint colors, better interior options, forged wheels, etc

I'm just taking a wait and see attitude. If everything truly craps the bed and we end up with EU tariffs also, I'll just keep my money and continue to drive what I have. I'm not getting rid of my i4. The M2 is my track toy that I can live without.

i wouldn't hold your breath. no plants in europe are tooled for the 2series coupes. they are all made in MX. there would have to be massive changes to production lines to accommodate...and just for the US?

If some random dealership personnel in CA said it, it must be true
