Akrapovic Link pipe tune necessary?

I’m planning to get an exhaust system. In the Akrapovic site, it says that an ECU remap is mandatory if I get the link pipe (midpipe). Is it really necessary?

It might only be true in Europe because of the GPF. It might remove it and trigger a check engine light (which the tune removes).

RoW cars don’t have GPF (at least not in NA/SA), so a tune is not necessary.
