Downstar kit install - Easy DIY for distinct color style
One of the best ways to dress up your engine bay, is Downstar! I had a similar kit on my previous M2, and knew I wanted to get the kit for the new M2 as well. This guide could be used for almost all of the G8X line, of the M2, M3 and M4.
Downstar also has an absolute rainbow of colors, so you can match or contrast anything you want with your build. Check it out!

Love your enthusiasm, but bolts are not something to which attention should be brought. If anything replace them with standard black bolts so they blend in and are unnoticeable.

Definitely a stylistic individual choice for sure. One of the best I have seen was purple on a twilight purple G80.

This is a far better way to dress up the engine bay. You have a number of color options to make it offset one's car. Price is not bad at all for a new oem cover professionally painted.

Well, I did it! I bought the gold washers & bolts. They're a very soft, but dark gold. I think they actually look pretty nice. I figure the OEM gray ones are still a color - and draw attention to themselves as is, so why not spice it up a tad?
I did not change all of them because in some places, the bolts aren't really visible, or I thought it would be too much. I left about 9 bolts unused - it was 10 but I found a lone silver bolt they missed that was real visible & used one there. I'll point it out in the pic I post tomorrow. It just sucks how plain (and plastic) our under-the-hood is & I thought this was a nice way to nice it up a bit. Now, time to paint the plastic engine cover! When it's daylight, I'll take a pic & post it. Thanks for posting, BMW DIY Guy.

another shot of the bolt they missed where I could use a leftover DS bolt. Surprised they missed this one because it's pretty visible.

I would let Downstar know and I bet they could fix that right up, plus the feedback would be good for anything obviously missed.

Here's my setup with (mostly) matching Blackline caps. The red anodizing on the downstar isn't quite as metallic but looks close enough.

[QUOTE=NewToM;31322628]Seems like one could do both if they were so inclined.
I did just that ! That's the beauty of our hobby in that one can be subtle or as extreme as they want. |
