Our car has the following performance mods:
Eventuri Intake
Catless Downpipe
Milltek Catback System
JB4 Tuning Module
Endless Brake Pads
MSS HAS Kit

Running on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

Now the car was running with the box tuned off in the first run. I would suspect it's running closer to around 390-400hp with the intake, downpipe and exhaust on their own. The box tuned on probably adds another 50-60hp, as Nathan mentioned in the video.

Regardless of those numbers, the performance from the M240i is dead impressive and it's still the better daily. The 4WD traction makes that car quicker on road and the ride quality is a lot nice, the suspension is noticeably softer. The M2 is much more dialled in though a feels faster because its much more on its toes and on the edge. Anyway, before I go off on a tangent, it was a fun race.
^this people! Spot on and someone who has both. The reason why the M2 still pulled at 460 bhp is because it’s not 460 bhp and Jacks m240i is closer to that bhp number:

When the M240i has the power turned up, it destroyed the M2 off the line as expected.

In a rolling race with similar hp, the M240i will lose. Ther is more power loss from the xDrive, running on 2 differentials instead of 1 on the RWD M2.

I will still get the G87 M2 because of
1. 6MT (most important)
2. S58
3. Suspension tuning from M
4. Looks more aggressive
First three points are completely valid and objective. The fourth, subjective as is saying the M2 is ugly.

And intake, exhaust, down pipe.

I’d be curious to see what fuel/adders were in both tanks. I suspect a tuner doesn’t bring their FBO piggyback car to a YouTube race with a tank full of 91.

To me this answers the long standing debate of: just get the non-M and tune it.

If you think those mods don't make power, plus the suspension work to hook up better, you're deluding yourself. Not saying the 240i isn't potent, but that wasn't really a stock vs stock run. Let's put the same mods on the M2 and redo that race.

I’m not saying the s58 is bad in any way but they cost $15-$20k used while a b58 you can scoop up for less than $5k which makes it a much more appealing swap.

Fun video, and surprised it took so long in the making; I would’ve expected it the first week of M2 deliveries.

Obviously, the predictions of this video have been discussed in multiple posts for some time now, and the results proved accurate to most predictions. The M2 is the superior long distance athlete, while the M240 is the superior sprinter.

If I was going all out on a true M car I’d be furious if it didn’t excel in spades over its little brother in EVERY performance metric! But that’s not the case here, as the most common performance numbers are going to be 0-60 and 1/4. For cars that drive 99.9% of their miles on the street it’s going to boil down to 0-60 and 1/8. This is where the M240 glows, and that glow only gets brighter with more power mods thanks to the xDrive and gobs of low-end torque.

The speeds where the M2 shine is simply unrealistic outside a track or highway, and starting next month Texas will consider racing on a highway as organized criminal activity that can result in vehicle seizure. Sure, this can apply to any 150 HP car, but the point is this is the new M2’s bread and butter. And for the track, I’ll gladly take an inexpensive lightweight with cheap consumables. I’ve done track time in track-focused cars that cost under $15K up to and exceeding $300K, and the truth is the fun factor is just as high in a NC Miata with Ohlins, light weight wheels, sticky tires and grippy brakes. Fun track time does not have to equal fast lap times.

That’s a long-winded way of saying the M2 is only a mild upgrade to the M240 in areas that will not be relevant to most, and even a slight downgrade to the M240 in areas that are relevant to most.

Sounds like the M240i is the right car for you, for some of us the M2 makes more sense

Agreed. Now, an automatic AWD M2, I would buy in a heartbeat.

Both brilliant cars, but looks wise, could I walk past a 718 S and spend £65k plus on an M2...nope...😂

IDK if that makes you lucky or unlucky that they cost the same where you live. The M2 here in the US is the equivalent of 50K GBP and the 718 S is the equivalent of 63k GBP

Result was what I expected.
M240i have always been great cars, just not as playful as the full blown M cars.
Looking forward to an AWD M2C with ZF8.

Not sure why you seem so butthurt over my assertion but yeah im here all day. I guess youre a purist who likes to drive your stock automatic car, have it serviced regularly at the dealer, and probably have an EV as a second vehicle. Live a little…. A Porsche or Ferrari are great investment vehicles if you get the right options and spec.

Have you experienced many M cars?

They are not about straight line speed. Their steering is way sharper, the suspension geometry way better, and then feel so much more planted than a Non-M car.

Easy to benefit from those things on the street too. When I traded my 135 for my 1M it felt like a night and day difference in feel and behaviour. I am pretty sure those differences are present in any M vs. Non-M comparison.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not butthurt bro. Again, I didn't say anything bad about the 240i....I merely said it wasn't completely an apples to apples test and that you can always find someone with a less expensive car that can perform almost as well as a more expensive car. I think you're confusing me with the other posters.
