Have you ever been caught where you bought your dream Bimmer, but another model comes out the very next year and it has a look or feature or upgrade that just burns so bad you pull the trigger and take the depreciation/loss?

I know “there’s always something better coming” that’s not the point of this. Spare me that speech.

That’s a tough pill after paying for all those one-time costs - plates, PPF, tint, mods (some might move forward to the new vehicle.)

I have a feeling that’s what I’m heading into with my MY25. I have a feeling we’ll see the Comp in MY26 and it’s going to have some pretty drastic performance and visual changes. I hope I can live with the changes and not have the burning desire to flip out of a vehicle so soon. Generally not recommended.

I've kept plenty of vehicles less than 2 years. Sometimes, I've taken a pretty decent hit on them, sometimes not. My wife ordered a '23 Grand Cherokee and was so frustrated with the constant software glitches and no fix that she dumped it in 9 months. We paid 4% below invoice for it, so didn't take much of a hit at all.

I will say with M2, I don't feel the comp version price will be worth the modest performance bump to make me want to trade what I already have.

Are you ready to spend the $$ on the Comp/CS (assuming you can get an allocation)? I am sure I have well exceeded the price of a Comp/CS for my MY23 with mods/builds HOWEVER, even with a Comp/CS, I would probably do most all of the same things.

Back in 2015 I traded in a 2015 WRX for a 2015 STI and was ultimately very happy I had done so. They were very different cars.

To be fair, I barely lost anything on the trade, and those were much cheaper cars.

I'm not sure an M2 Competition would be drastically different. Even the F87 M2 -> M2C was ultimately not that different of an experience. On paper yes, but in practice, it didn't appear to be. I could be wrong.

There will always be something new right around the corner. By the time a Competition model comes a new electrified M2 won't be far behind. Then you'll be asking yourself if you should wait for that.

i can say with absolute certainty that no, no i will not be asking myself if i should wait for the hybrid M2.

to OP, my plan is to ride out this M2 until there's more certainty on timing/backpedaling on the electric train. M-B already talking about ditching the hybrid 4 to go back to the V8... will BMW follow suit? if your gut feeling is that the M2C is going to be the last stop before the end, just wait for it... if not, pull trigger now and wait for the next crop.

You're also forgetting tax for those of us in states that don't let you deduct the trade in value from the new car. 7.5% on a $70k car 2x quickly isn't fun.

There's no way I would trade in within a year unless there was something drastic I couldn't live with like JABCAT's wife.

They are making G87's until 2029; I'm assuming we'll have enough warning of the last iteration of ICE MT models to order them. If I do end up wanting an upgrade I'll be waiting for that.

I wouldn't be so sure about that!

If the new Porsche Macan and Lucid Air Sapphire are any indication, we might actually get something we'll love.

But sorry, I don't want to derail the thread with ICE vs Electric.

I'm skeptical, but hopeful we'll eventually get great cars.

all due respect- i am absolutely, 100% sure that if they are anything like the new macan or lucid (lol) i will be all set. i would take a civic sport with a stick over either of those.

I’ve thought about Trading my 24 Brooklyn Grey for a 25 Grigio Telesto or Skyscraper. I like BG but Skyscraper or Grigio are tempting. I live in NY so you only pay tax on difference. I probably won’t do it though.

Otherwise I’ve never had a car for less than 4 years or so.

Custom orders a g42 m240i xdrive January 23. Loved it, but it just wasn’t right for me. Traded it in for a 6MT m2 last week and ate 3k overall. If it’s not right, it’s not right. Money comes and goes.

I think he's asking when production will officially switch from '24 features to '25 features, which if it is the same as when they switched from '23 to '24 will be sometime in August 2024.

The dealer should be clear with you when you place your order what model year you will get. When I placed my order last year it was early August and I took delivery the last week of September, it was probably one of the first produced 2024 models.

I am buying another BMW (getting on the wait-list) for an M2 a little more than a year after buying my i4 M50 but it's different.

The M2 is to replace my 335i that was a total loss right before I got the M50.

I did the same. Loved the car, but missed the MT. Really really love the G87.

23 G42 to 24 G87. I almost wish I could have picked San Paolo Yellow or Twilight Purple, but I know I would have gotten BSM anyway so no regrets from me.

I traded in a 2002 Mazda Protege base model for a 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege (Mazda literally released this car a few months after my 2002 was bought). I absolutely had to have the newest and more cool version and I spent some serious money on the deal, even carried some negative equity into the new car loan. Those were the days when I was young and an idiot.
