Hi! I just got a set of new wheels/tires, 20x9 ET30 with 265/30 tires and I rub on big dips and during full turns going reverse.

I got them second hand, trying to make them fit. Rears are perfect. Front I put 15mm spacers. For “everyday” driving, it’s fine. I’ve rubbed a few times, nothing too crazy. But I need to fix.

I’m going to try a 12mm spacer (instead of 15mm), to see if that does the trick. Plan B is to swap out the front tires, for something not as fat (225, 245 or 255).

Anyone have any recommendations? Pics for reference!

With the 20 inch wheels , doesn't the 265/35 tires put you over an inch larger for overall tire diameter ?

26" for stock vs. 27.3" ?

Would the 265/30 tires been the better choice, or is that just what they came with when you bought the wheels ?

The 265/30 would put you just slightly over 26" for overall tire diameter.

So I would assume your speedometer reads a bit slow , and acceleration was made slightly worse with the larger than stock overall tire diameter ?

You’re right, I got it wrong. I meant to put 265/30. Not 265/35. Good catch. The diameter of the wheel is less than 1% from stock.

But the combination of 265/30, 20x9” with et30 and the 15mm spacer, introduce some slight occasionally rubbing.

Ah, okay , makes sense. So it's a really good setup beyond the occasional front rubbing.

If you know exactly where the rubbing is occurring , and if is indeed on the outer part of the tire, then switching to either a 10mm or 13mm spacer might limit or completely eliminate the rubbing.

Otherwise then swapping out the front tires to let's say some 245/30 might be the solution.

And as you know , you can get a set of spacers for very cheap , about $100. Getting two new front tires obviously will cost several hundred bucks.

Yes, let’s hope cheapest solution wins.

I will say tho, 265/30 up front, steering is a bit heavier and larger bumps feel less harsh compared to the stock 19”, all season, run flat setup.

Also, I can see when I turn the wheel, the top of the corner edge of the tire touches the plastic cover in the wheel well. I can easily avoid this tho. It’s the occasional dip/rub that worries me more.

265 is usually a good size for a 9.5" wheel also

5mm spacer did the trick, still have a very slight rub, full lock reverse, but it’s so slight, I’m fine with it.

Did you say that it was just tire rubbing on the wheel well liner?

Yes, very slight, full turn in reverse. It’s the air vent in the wheel well. I know there is a mod to change it to give the wheel more room for aggressive figments. Which I man do in the future.

Yes I saw the aftermarket wheel liners on the M2 forum. Quite expensive apparently.

Someone was having the exact issue where the tire was contacting the vent flaps on the wheel liner.

But in your case, it sounds like the tire will just eventually rub away the little bit that it's contacting with.
