Mid pipe help

Hey guys, new to the forums here.

I’ve been reading through countless exhaust threads and have read about the cold start rattle that non-resonated equal length midpipes cause on the G8x platform with the stock muffler.

I plan on the midpipe being my only mod, and I was considering the AA Equal Length midpipe, but I don’t want to have a rattle on cold start.

With that said, does anyone in here have experience with this midpipe that can speak on the rattle? Should I go with the AA single midpipe instead? Would that avoid the cold start rattle?

Thanks in advance!

To avoid rattle, you’ll need to go with AA Single midpipe, since it will reduce the exhaust gas flow from pushing the valve and muffler’s internal.

I have helped to develop ER’s midpipe, installed AA EL and Single midpipe to local G87’s.

My personal favorite is ER midpipe since it produce hp in stock form by itself.
Besides, the rattle is a norm thing on S58 engine during cold start, until you changed the rear muffler to a quality muffler.

I only have experience with the AA single mid pipe, but it sounds good and doesn't rattle.

Just installed Dinan X-Pipe. So far, it's great. Fantastic sound. Deep but not overpowering. Combined with the Burger intake, it makes a difference.

Mike, does the cold start rattle only seem to happen with the EL non-resonated mid pipes?

Zero rattle in the Dinan. And a LOT less than $1,800.

Buy one from Mike!

Active is the only company that makes a true equal length.

I have seen some cheap Chinese copies, but their fitment is terrible.

China. I did not notice a huge difference between having the AA EL before and now having just Milltek straight pipes. Maybe a tad but not enough to justify 1800 vs 900.

Cold start with valves open kills rattle but is much louder lol. You can also drop to gear immediately after start with valves closed and it will also avoid the rattle. I may end up adding the AA axle back as well to my AA EL for a bit more and since Mike reminded me it maintains oem valves control. That should kill the rattle as well just curious how quiet cold starts will still be with the valves closed on it.

Factory is EL. You can remove the cats and resonators but most people don't think it sounds that great.

Go single

Are you saying that the factory mid pipe is equal length? If so, why is AA and Valvetronic making “EL” midpipe with curvy side calling it Equal Lenght?

If you measure the pipes stock, they are not 100% equal.

Active Autowerke offers the only true equal length on the market with 2 pipes being exactly the same length

Valvetronic uses a single pipe design and uses different length connections; it's not truly an equal length. its closer to a modified single.

That said, go single, its sounds the best

What are the brands you recommend that offer a single mid-pipe option for the G87? All other exhaust components for me would stay stock.
