I'm assuming that the ppf is esentially the same thing and will be susceptible or is it just that it was a 2014 and the process/product since then has drastically improved? Do you have to get it redone after so long? What's the recommendation?

I think yhere was something wrong with your ppf, the installer or both. Xpel installed by a certified installer will not do that and is self healing.

I have had a clear bra on my 2018 S5 since January 2018 with no issues, damage and definitely no mold.

Product has greatly improved over the past few years.

Did you also have problems with yellowing of the film from oxidation?

No, it never yellowed, just had these gray spots all over it. It looked completely filthy right after a wash. I eventually had it removed. The removal took a couple of small chips of paint with it but it was a thousand times better than it looked with it on. That's my 'ride it 'till the wheels fall off' car, so I'm not concerned with it. Just didn't want to be experiencing any of that with the new one. Just trying to figure out how often I would need to get it redone, if at all.

Must be so stealth, you can't even tell it's on the car. Next level PPF

I am bumping this thread, curious if people have a preference between xpel and stek.

If going clear, Stek has the edge. Glossier and more clear. Xpel clear has an orange peel aspect to it, although it’s hard to notice it can be seen under the right lighting.

If stealth (matte/sati’), Xpel gives you more of a matte over satin appearance. Stek will be more satin than matte, because again their films are more “clear” so the metallic flake is more visible.

This is due mostly to the way the films are manufactured iirc. Xpel uses a glue between the layers, where stek does not.

Xpel was the obvious leader for so long and I’ve been happy with my Stealth ppf, but next car im leaning stek for clear/ gloss.

Reviving this thread. Can those of you that have done PPF on the G87 comment on how much you paid? I'm pricing it out and just got a quote for $8k full STEK PPF, or $3k full front, $450 roof, $450 rockers, and $1200 rear quarters

I haven't had mine done yet, but that's real close to what I had quoted for mine.

I was "ball parked" 7000-8500" from two local shops.... At this rate is cheaper to repaint it when I get chips LOL!

Yeah, I don't think there is any point in doing a full ppf unless you are getting a color/finish change. But I wouldn't definitiely do the front end and rocker panels.

Better check costs to do a quality paint job. Will definitely be more than your ppf quote. Taking it to Earl Schieb...yes, cheaper but I would stick with the chips.

I'm currently weighing the options. Partial vs Full and possibly going satin/matte if going full. By the time you go partial and ceramic coat the vehicle you are getting close to full PPF cost. I can just wax the PPF without ceramic possibly as long as it is protected. Unless there is something I don't know.

I'm a little concerned that Xpel (and/or other PPF) is going to really mask the pearl metallic paint with Black Sapphire Metallic and make it more noticeable. So, it makes me question doing the entire car and going stealth/satin/matte if it's going to reduce the brilliance of the paint anyway.

It's just so ridiculously expensive to do the entire car in PPF. Then question if it's going to be done properly. Are they going to cut the paint all over the car. Can I find a trustworthy shop that isn't ridiculously priced. Will it peel even if I am careful when I wash it.

Looks like I don't have a Stek installer locally. I would have to go to Dallas. That means track wrapping the car and who knows if they can even get it done in one day or not if paint correction is involved. How might that impact any warranty coverage if it peels would be another question.

I'm a little overwhelmed as to how to handle it currently to be honest. My car hasn't yet actually begun production thankfully. I've got a little time to sort it out.

I had my Hockenheim silver f87 satin wrapped. Yes it is expensive. Even with teh satin wrap you could see the metalic flake and it still did the bit of color change. It looked amazing. I had mine for 3 years and it never peeled, but I also had a shop I trusted. When I had mine fully wrapped, they through in the ceramic for free, so I can't speak to washing/waxing without the ceramic.

Hope that helps. And I am getting my ZB fully satin wrapped when I get it also.

I would not have done full ppf were it not for going stealth. Otherwise I could not have justified the price. But I paid a lot to have a reputable shop do it. All the pieces were hand cut to get full coverage. The very few places that were not covered were done out of necessity. Overall I'm happy with my decision.

Looks great! How much did it run you? I'm thinking of doing a full clear PPF since I intend to keep the car for a long time.

I'm looking for more examples of STEK Dynomatte on black. I think I get the picture that XPEL Stealth is more blacked out and matte looking. Which does look nice particularly with black trim to contrast with it.

My curiosity is mainly how the more translucent STEK product looks with the BSM metallic flakes, etc. Does it let more of the qualities of the metallic paint shine through in a complimentary way. It seems a shame to hide it under a matte film.

I wonder how that shiny satin look works vs the blacked out matte. Personal preference I'm sure. I might be concerned that the Dynomatte makes the BSM look silver/grey more than it already does too though.

I think I'm going to try to make a run down to Dallas this week to look at a few shops. One shop has a G87 in getting STEK Dynoshield currently. Excellent chance to see their work on the exact vehicle I want to get done.

Edit - If anyone happens to know of anything more like this comparison feel free to send it my way: https://www.titanmotorworks.com/our-...m3-competition
