As it turns out, m240i owners, are the smartest BMW owners

https://carbuzz.com/bmw-most-horsepo...-dollar-m240i/

Or something like that, lol. Basically, what the article is saying is that the m240i is the best bang for your buck, when it comes to all BMWs. We are paying the least amount per horsepower, for what you get.

A comparable M340i is like $8K more... for 2 extra doors, 3 inches of legroom, 2.9 inches of headroom, and 3.2 sqft of storage... and of course inherently worse performance as it's heaver with a longer wheelbase. The Arctic Racing Blue M340i with a red interior is tempting, but a Thundernight M240i for much cheaper is calling me more haha.

The Supra is a decent deal but it has iDrive6 and very limited storage.

Overall the M240i is a great balance. AWD optional, usable rear seat for all but taller men, and plenty of storage when the rear seats are folded down.

Very good points. I also looked at the 340i when I was car shopping. But, I didn't want to spend that much more for two extra doors that I would never use. A coup works perfectly for me. I was also seriously considering the Supra. But being over 6 ft tall, I knew that would just be a little bit too small for me for a daily driver

Ya the coupe works fine for me too. My RSX-S has way less room in the rear (but does have a more useful hatch).

I looked at the Supra and Z but wanted more practicality, but don't need that of the 3 series at this point in my life... so why pay $8K more haha.

Also the 3 series even in M-lite mode looks so boring to be honest. There's soooo many basic 3 series out there that you would never stand out (although some like that). They also had ugly colors until Arctic Racing Blue.

Oh man, hopefully the 3 guys don't see you insulting their car haha. I think the m340i is a very good looking vehicle. But yeah, it does kind of blend in with all the other BMW sedans, unless it's modded. Honestly, if the m340i was just a couple grand more, I likely would have went with the sedan.

I had also seriously considered the z. But once everyone realized how much of the car was carried over from the 370Z, for the price tag, it's kind of a scam. Then all the race comparison videos came out, and the z was just getting beaten by everything lol

The only other car close to taking over the m240i for me was the z4 but wasn't willing to pay that premium for basically the same thing.

Not trying to be too rude to the M340i owners, haha but it's very basic looking as it's difficult to look sporty with lots of rear headroom, etc.

I agree if it was like $3K-$4K more I would go the M340i, but it's like $8K more for worse performance (and it has the mild hybrid I don't want).

The Z4 is useless to me as it's a convertible and I live in Chicago (and need 1 car). The Z is very much a 370Z+, I agree, which is why I would go Supra instead if I could go with just 2 seats. To be honest I would look at a Lotus Evora instead if I was going less practical (has a very small rear seat and an upgraded Camry engine).

The closed off honeycomb in the upper area of the kidneys made the 340 a no go. Such a bad design decision. Insignificant to some but to me just looks terrible (no offense to G20 owners).

I’m a G42 owner and love the car but I wouldn’t say horsepower per dollar alone is the definition of best value. There are some misses on the car like the frameless doors which might make sense for a convertible or even of the rears rolled down for an open hardtop experience. As it is, they simply make for a less than solid feeling and sounding door when you close it. The door panels themselves are a bit nicer in the G20. Otherwise they are very comparable, including in performance on the road. The 3 or even 4 is more practical for rear seat room or carrying larger items with the rear seats folded down.

I think BMWs pricing across models is very much a pay more to get more situation. A 5 series with the same motor might be marginally slower and less nimble in corners but it’s quite a bit more luxurious. Details might not matter to some and they might be all about power and performance per dollar, but having experience with several models, I feel the value per dollar across the lineup is very consistent and buyers choose based on budget and priorities.

Definitely some things I would like to improve on the G42.

I actually like the looks of the M2 better. But when an M2 finally gets released with xDrive. It will easily be $12k or more expensive than an xDrive m240i.

As of now, just over $50k for a car that does 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds, can't be beat for that value.

You're right about that! I've never heard it mentioned before, but I've always thought it.

What is it about BMW and grilles? The hideous beaver has been discussed ad nauseam. The new M5 is weird too. Not nuts about the grille on the Z4 (which is to my eye, the best looking current model). Seems the only models that got it right (contemporary) are the 8 series and the G42.

Yeah, I am happy with the G42 front and rear end, but would like to see:
- Dual angel eye headlights
- Nicer tail lights, like the 3 series

The G80/G82 front end has grown on me, but still think the F80/F82 had the design dialed in perfectly and wins in the looks department.

I hope they re-do the G87 design at some point.

Sounds about right. Tbh Id love to have gone with an M2 though, but the price difference is around 35k USD where I live. Just not sure if its worth it.

Same here, my car is a daily driver and my work commute is 92 miles per day, 3 days a week…I do not goto the track. My key requirements were power, affordable, fuel economy, and something that looks nice..the 240 checks all of the boxes.

I could afford the M but it just didnt make sense…there are many that spend the extra money for the M that do not do any M things…its crazy. Its just a “look at me” expense.
