CarPlay draining battery/Crap wireless charging
I’m finding that using Waze or Google maps is draining my battery quite fast, the stupid wireless charger makes the phone so hot that it needs to cool down killing the apps running at the time, even then it doesn’t charge the phone well anyway, a few % per hour.
I have some long drives coming up and I’m worried the phone battery will be depleted before completing the drive. Is charging via the usb cable better? Or any other solution to the absolute shit house wireless charging? |

They are pre configured on Australian cars, not optional. Either way that’s not the point, CarPlay drains the battery, so all of you without the wireless chargers what are you doing to charge your phones?

Just plug in a mini-USB to Lightning cable between the USB port in the armrest and the iPhone. Took my iPhone from 13% to 44% charge in about 20mins of driving today.

Your car should have 2 usb ports. Simply plug the phone in as already mentioned. I never use the wireless tray.

Interestingly, my phone overheated using the usb-c charger in the center console last week on my trip from Dallas to Austin. It's never done that before, and I've made that trip nearly every weekend for the last 8 months.

I used to think it was that my screen was staying on, but that isn't the case. Once I started using a cable, the overheating problems went away. I have to believe there is a heat issue with the tray itself, as I use charging trays at home and work with no heat issues at all. |

My wife's phone overheated today in her X3MC while plugged in (no wireless tray in her's). Also first time that's happened. Maybe it's something with the iphones (both iphone 15s)? :

Hi all!
Small suggestion: use you armrest charger with any connection you need: magsafe, QI2 or plug directly to the phone and put it face down in the armrest. Then use the rear seat's air outlet, lower the temperature and close the flaps. You will find that the plastic on the bottom of the armrest space is at least fresher than any other part of your car. The air going to the rear seats flows under the armrest... Ciao Ale |
