Loss of Bluetooth Connection

Three days ago my car stopped linking with my iPhone 13 (or perhaps it's the other way around). Tried a number of solutions including Youtube, removing the BMW car from my Bluetooth favourites etc. Attended dealership today and the solution was rebooting the car and presto everything commenced working again.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with their G87?

Yes, with my android phone. It's the car software. For me, rebooting the phone also works. I've noticed this happens on frequent connects/disconnects with the car, especially if you have proximity unlock engaged.

Not directly linked to Bluetooth but I have random issues with CarPlay.

Occasionally my steering controls will stop working mid-drive, when this happens I disable and re-enable WiFi on the phone and this restores functionality.

Music not consistently playing where I last left off. Some days it’ll continue mid-song as expected, other times I have to press play. Recently I switched to the radio and then back to CarPlay and played music, then for around 5 car starts after that it continued playing the radio instead of CarPlay.

Not to side track this thread with iOS vs Android but I’ve been a die hard android user since inception and thought iOS/CarPlay functionality would be much more polished, but it’s far from it. I find it funny how Apple users look at android like it’s the cheap/crappier option when it works better and devices (Pixels) just as nice. I’m looking forward to switching back to android in a year or so.

My new issue is that everything works wireless except calls. Lol and the only fix is reboot of phone.

Huh, I guess other people have been getting this too. Had no idea about the phone reboot solution will have to try that. Whenever I've gotten this issue I've just rolled my eyes and then continued using android auto and it would just fix itself after a while.

It's an idrive issue for sure. I haven't seen this issue in other cars.

Whilst this is of no help to you, I have a similar issue.
So this is for info only, sorry.

2024 M240i (UK) with i-Drive 8, my iPhone 11Pro (and partner's iPhone 14) connect in full and correctly (no issues)

BUT

I have to reconnect every time I come to the car after full shutdown.
Same issue with M135i (2023 MY, iDrive 7)...both phones, both cars.
  • Apple GENIUS hasn't a clue.
  • BMW Genius clueless.
  • Dealer clueless.

2024 and having to reconnect phones after every (full, as in > 2 hours) shutdown

Could be the weather for all I know...it's quite ridiculous....

For sure.

When in doubt try one of these three:

Reboot phone
Reboot iDrive
Delete the connection profile (BT or WiFi) in iDrive and/or phone.
