Dashcam recommendations

Hey all,

While I await delivery I am looking for a dashcam. I know about the BlackVue and Thinkware ones, but my biggest concern with the pair is warranty impacts.

With that being said, does anyone use the Advanced Car Eye 2.0 on any of their vehicles? I know it isn't the slimmest/stealthiest design, but it is something I can compromise on as long as it wouldn't impact my warranty.

I didn't even know BMW made a dashcam lol. that radar parking detection sounds really awesome, however, I wonder how hard it is to install.

I briefly looked into it, the BMW one looks about as annoying to install as the BlackVue 2 channel (or any other 2 channel one for that matter). You've got to run a wire across the car to hook the two cameras up, plus the battery is in the trunk.

Personally it's not something I want to do myself, but that's more laziness than lack of ability. I decided to just depend on the drive recorder covering me for now, although I still might add a true dash cam down the line.

I have a Garmin Dash Cam 55W. It's been working great for almost 3 years now. High quality footage. Real brand name, solid updates.

Can I see pics of how you have it setup in your vehicle? I'm leaning towards the Garmin 2 mini atm

I have it mounted directly underneath the connected drive module on the middle of the windshield. I keep moving it between cars, so I had to order some additional adhesive mounts. I can send you a picture tomorrow when I drive. The 55W has an articulating mount, so you can adjust it very easily.

Sure take your time! Curious to see how you routed the wires as I will be doing the same with the Garmin mini 2

The wire just dangles down to the 12V next to the cup holder, where there is a 18W Anker 12V USB charger to power it. I have a rubber band for cable management. Not the best looking setup, but it works. Garmin sells the hardwiring kit and I have it. I'm just too lazy to route it or pay someone to route it properly through the interior trim.

Ah I see! Do you know if there is a 12v or USB plug inside the glovebox?

There's actually a USB port next to the cupholders, but I already paid a decent ($20, lol) amount for this low profile, high power Anker 12V charger. It works extremely well. Not sure what the voltage on the USB port is.

I hear you about warranty concerns. The BMW Advanced Car Eye 2.0 is a trusted option that shouldn't impact your warranty. While it may not be the most discreet, its compatibility with BMW vehicles and assurance of warranty coverage make it a reliable choice for dashcam needs.
I have been really enjoying the Mercylion a20 integrated dash cam that I installed. The rear view is amazing as it gives a great rear and side overview showing the blind spots on the truck, but also allows me to easily see into the bed as well. The clarity has been great, and zero issues with it.

I have a Blackvue cam installed. It’s excellent.
It’s a walk in the park to route the cable from - the front mirror, along the headlining, behind the air bag wiring, down the A pillar along the floor, under the rear seat to the boot where you can easily connect to the battery, a good earth and an ACC fuse.

To enable parking mode, buy the additional battery pack. Unlike the old power pro unit, this will protect the car battery and records for a coupe, of days.

Be aware some rear cams can affected the DAB reception.

has anyone had any issues installing a dashcam sticky mount onto front window tint? I'm not sure if the weight of the camera and driving vibrations/bumps will pull the window tint off.
