PPF Cost
My M240i is due at the dealer any day now and I am considering having the dealer do a PPF install.
They indicated that they use XPEL film. I asked about precut vs off the roll, wrapped edges etc and was told wrapped edges would be done where possible. CA specifically mentioned that the hood would have no edges exposed but that the complexity of the bumper may preclude wrapped edges in all cases (true?). For full hood, fenders and bumper they want $2000. For another $400 they will cover the mirrors, door cups and rockers so $2400 total. I called the local XPEL recommended installer and it was going to be $3k for the same coverage. Are these prices in line with I should expect? Honestly I guess I had unrealistic expectations, I was thinking closer to $1500. Still on the fence regarding the value of PPF at this point. |

That sounds about fine. 3k is a little high, but 2-2.4 for a full front/front plus seems okay. I paid 6k for a full vehicle wrap, and I took that opportunity to make my paint matte as well since I was doing the whole car. As for coverage, yeah the templates may leave some areas uncovered. I contacted a Xpel and Kavaca dealer and neither had templates for the shadowline trim on the bumper/grille, so the front especially doesn't have perfect coverage unless you shell out the $$$$ for a bulk install.
I think it comes down to what do you want from the car? I'm personally not a fan of re-sprays because there's always a risk of not getting the exact perfect match in color/texture and I like the idea of keeping things original, but it is one of those things where someone can argue that a re-spray is not that much different in cost (or just leaving the scratches and chips) if you would be okay with that route. I figure, even at the same cost, I prefer the luxury of a tough, trouble-free covering so I don't have to worry about highway rock chips and bug guts and stuff for the length of my ownership. |

I paid a little over 7K for a full wrap-fully tucked. They removed a lot of body panels to get it done. It's overkill for sure, but anything worth doing is worth doing to excess.

Comparing xpel quotes from my area, yours seem to be high. Full bumper, headlights, full hood, full fenders, mirrors and materials with labor totals $1750 plus tax. That was discounted without even asking. They say full price was $1950.
I looked at partial front at $1100 or only front bumper at $600. I have had ppf before and don't really like the feeling when I wax it, but it does help with minimizing damage. All that said, I am thinking about not doing ppf and just not worry about it. |

Paid 2k for full hood, front bumper, a pillars, front quarter panels, gas door, mirrors, roof up to moonroof. Look around and see if you can get recommendations from someone local.
