I think if you get it in all black it would look more appropriate if you are worried about it looking too young. Black with cognac interior. Maybe the intent of the car is to help you feel younger once you get behind the wheel.

I mean you can for an additional charge. M performance gets installed at the port. I just wonder what they do with your stocks?

Anyone know how that works with M performance parts? Like if they install the lower spring kit do you get the stock stuff in the trunk?

I thought it was shown in some literature that it was the same as the 1000M

Amazing what the design can do for the look. Same wheel base as the M3/M4 but even they don't look as wide in the front hips.

The M2 proportions will look proper beast mode in person.

Lol.....my thoughts exactly! 460 hp, 6MT, adaptive suspension, tech everywhere, track specs, and likely a hoot to drive.

So much negatively from some folks. If they don't like it .... GREAT! Maybe that will free up more for those of us who do!

Great 2 car garage that pair.

G87 M2 has a lot of potential, just look how wide it is! Looking forward to ours arriving.

I still need to see it in person, but I think I like it. BG is a great color. Might be the last 6MT we get from the M division.

There is none. In a really bizarre interview with the designer he opens by saying there's nothing that doesn't serve a purpose on the car, which helped justify their lack of side vent. Then when the interviewer asked about the "bulbousness" of the front and rear elements the designer said they are for style and later contradicted himself by stating the m2 features product design (as opposed to functional design).

That's the issue for me. The cars styling is an uncohesive mess. It's so weird. LCI will probably clean it up.

Because the m4 weight ~3750lbs and the m2 has always weighed pretty much exactly what the m4 does. It's a shorter wheelbase m4 with all the "heavy bits" being identical between the cars. The shorter wheelbase should liven it up and the m4 apparently still drives incredibly, so I'm not too worried.

Makes sense, although still a bit disappointing. If the G87 drives like the G82 than I’m out. I’ve tracked the G82 twice and although extremely capable I didn’t enjoy it partly due to the dead steering and just how big the car feels. I suppose I’ll leave some hope for the CS version.

In that same interview with bmwblog, I believe the designer admitted the vents in the corners of the headlights were in fact “nonfunctional” which made me lol.

Not a fan of that dealership, but they always have loads of M cars down south.

In the spirit of trying to interpret what he said to make sense:

I would assume the lack of the fender vent is a design element that "looks" like a vent but actually does nothing. Whereas the front air intakes are massive because they actually *do* something. Hence why they are accentuated.

In general I love the design, I don't think trim around the grille would necessarily be an improvement, of all the "grille experiments" BMW has tried recently the G87 looks the best to me. The massive front air intakes are reminiscent of fighter jet air intakes and really give the impression of a track weapon.

But hey, looks are subjective, so you do you. F87's are getting cheap so anyone can pick one up nowadays.

He was also asked if the vents next to the headlights were real, he responded by saying they were just styling.

Yep.

People who go out of their way to loudly broadcast hate are insecure about the fact that others actually really like/love it. They’re raining on the parade.

Experienced this with the G82. Got mine at launch in early 2021 and had literally hundreds of thumbs up and “Amazing/Bad ass car”’s and “Wow”’s from people in real life while internet folks were trying to convince me that the car was hideous and that I’d be embarrassed to be seen in it.

Thats because the G80 design is actually cohesive and intentional. It'll be a good looking car to most people who aren't basing it's design merits on grille size compared to previous M3 models.

G87 exercised restraint on the grilles but everything else looks pretty weird. And maybe that's part of the appeal. It's fresh, it's the new toy, it's aggressive, it'll be a beast performance wise, and the price point is attainable. This car will do well despite not being "good looking".

I would strongly push back on the M2's design not being "cohesive and intentional" the main design elements of the two air intakes on either side of the front bumper mirror the square reflector/sensor rear bumper, that coupled with the deep flared fenders on either side of the doors accentuate the width of the car.

The FXX generation of BMW cars will be remembered as the most "fiddly", "creased" generation of cars where the front bumpers were given too much conflicting accent points. I drove a F82 M4 over the sumer and was blown away at how dated it looks. The simpler, boxier design language like whats on the M2 or even the new range rover will define the upcoming generation of car design.
