The FXX generation of BMW cars will be remembered as the most "fiddly", "creased" generation of cars where the front bumpers were given too much conflicting accent points. I drove a F82 M4 over the sumer and was blown away at how dated it looks. The simpler, boxier design language like whats on the M2 or even the new range rover will define the upcoming generation of car design.
It's less about Fxx vs Gxx for me. I love the G80 design over the F80. The G87 specifically doesn't do it for me.

Fair, I just don't know what isn't "intentional and cohesive" about the G87. The design is centralized around relatively few themes (Boxy air intake carried through from front to rear, deeply flared fenders and side skirts, traditional grille shape with a new, frameless design).

People sleeping on this car. It's going to have so much road presence.

When I had one on order I was set on red being the colour, but I actually think BG is the one.

As with the G8x, this is a car that's going to get a lot of attention on roads as it stands out in a sea of SUV's and boring cars.

I want to like the car, but the goofy square intakes and squares on the back, along with the squared corners on the grill.... I don't know what they're doing here. I think BMW is just trolling us at this point. With the M3/M4 grills, and the new front end on the 7 and X7... and I own a new X7. I got past the split headlights and I love the vehicle. But every car is getting design language that you have to get past to enjoy the mechanics and interiors (If you can get past the curved screen - I have no problem with that). Seems like they are trying hard to be controversial or something. I get the tech upgrades with losing buttons. But the front end and rear end designs they're coming up with... And they aren't even cohesive along all of the series'. It's a bold strategy Cotton...

Brooklyn Grey reminds me of Steel Blue Metallic from the E46 days!

Exterior is definitely looking better, odd that you need to be so close to make the details work. Strong E30 feels from those box flares!

Sadly, I cannot look past BMW's most pure driving car having this flat-screen abomination inside...

Its subjective of course. I'm sure it's cohesive and intentional to their designers. But that doesn't necessarily mean it resonates that way with people. It wouldn't be so polarizing if it did.

Nothing you said about the design cues is incorrect. I'm well aware of the boxy & modern look they're going for so I suppose "intentionality" isn't the right word. Regardless, I don't think boxy & modern necessitates tail lights so fat apart that they resemble Sid from Ice Age or a rear end that looks like Jigsaw

Will undoubtedly be a hoot to drive but still an absolute disaster in the transportation design department imho. Definitely not catered to the mature bimmerfile. But I am sure this is a launching off design platform for new culture bias to reclaim younger affluent individuals who crave more excitement and individuality away from their daddy's old bimmer cars.

Annecodotal evidence but I’m recently 25 and was considering a G87 to add to my e92 m3 (until the g87 was revealed) and I don’t care for the design. None of my friends around my age seem care for it either. Just from speaking to my buddy at the local dealership, there seems to be only a handful of deposits from those in their 20s on the G87 and I live in one of the biggest cities in the US, so not quite sure what age demographic they’re going for.

More worthless anecdotal evidence:

Both me and my wife (both 25) and all of friends/coworkers who are into cars and around our age either love it or like it. There just aren't that many deposits from 20-somethings on any $60k+ sports car anyway.

Working your ass off through college to graduate with no debt and then having two tech incomes with no plans of having kids has worked out well.

Look at those G87 rear hips. Big time fender flare, but the front is lacking👎

Experienced this with the G82. Got mine at launch in early 2021 and had literally hundreds of thumbs up and “Amazing/Bad ass car”’s and “Wow”’s from people in real life while internet folks were trying to convince me that the car was hideous and that I’d be embarrassed to be seen in it.
Biggest facts. Don’t like it? Don’t buy it. No one cares what you think lol.
