It’s whatever the car came with. I can check in the AM, though I’ll have to search around for it. Is it in System Settings? Unless it’s in the App somewhere?

LOL sorry CM so many new delivered cars I lost my plot thinking you were the one with the auto.

Is it Squidget with the auto then? Or Ravenseal ?

One of which has an auto, and it’ll be different engagement for them.

Yes, go to System Settings, and then there’s “Software Upgrade” (not to be confused with the very last menu item “App Updates”)

I just checked and Squidget ’s is a manual.
I’ve officially lost it lol I have no idea who has an auto anymore so forget all about it hahahaha
We’re all manuals in this thread so we can all confirm whether the parking brake works automatically or not!

Hill-hold still works as it should.

Frankly, I prefer that I have to enable the P-Brake myself, but I'm curious why the auto-enable function stopped working after 1-week?

No sure if I'll have the dealer look into this at my next scheduled service.
I think this is what happened to me too. I SWEAR that the car engaged the ebrake on exit when I first got it, then stopped.

Today, I can definitely exit the car and the ebrake is not engaged, so I'm not sure what changed. Hmm, I disabled the autolock-on-exit feature (based on key fob location), was that what changed? Does ebrake engage when you lock the car?

Shrug, dunno, I haven't tried to rigorously test it.

I think aerobod owes us a video of his car engaging, and a few pictures of his settings. Otherwise he should be fined $5.

This issue is truly turning into a mystery.

I have been through every iDrive menu item, read the owners manual thoroughly, (which BTW is one of the worst technical manuals I've ever read), and spent hours on the interwebs in search of a solution...to no avail.

I reached out to my local BMW "Expert" who had no idea what I was talking about. In fact, they were unware that the MT equipped cars didn't have a dedicated Auto H-Hold button.

I suspect the BMW mechanics wont be of much help either.

It's up to us to solve this puzzle.

PS: The inability to release the P-Brake without the vehicle being in the drive ready-mode is a hazard.

I presume the P-Brake requires power both to engage, and disengage. Should the vehicle lose power, you're stuck!

If I recall, some of the earlier BMW's with electric P-Brakes had a mechanical release lever in the boot.

Anyone know if the G87 is so equipped?

I don’t wear boots so I’d have no place to hide such tool…

Did you try to disengage the parking brake by switching on diag mode?

So the M2s I last drove this week at the BMW track event were automatics. It was on these cars that I now realise that the parking brake was being set when Drive-ready state is shut off or the door is opened. Checking on my car when I got home this afternoon, my manual car doesn't do it unfortunately. I also tested the rapid 3 presses into diagnostics mode now that I'm home and it does allow parking brake release without starting the engine, though.

I just came here to say that. I tried in first gear and reverse, and nothing.
And I also tested diag mode and release the brake, so you guys are good there.

I already know this is probably going to be my #1 pet peeve/problem with the car. I have a weird irrational fear of not setting the parking brake in my car and having it roll into something.

Even after dailying a manual for the past like 6+ years I still find my self walking away from the car after parking then turning around and taking a peak back in to see I pulled the parking brake. Having it be a button that I have to make sure I press every time, that doesn't have a clear visual indicator like a handle parking brake is going to be annoying. Hopefully I am over thinking it and will eventually get used to it.

A red LED is illuminated when the parking brake is enabled.

With my 2023 M2 I have to engage the electric parking brake. It does not engage on its own when I shut off the engine. Or when I open the door or close the door then lock the car.

If the electric parking brake is engaged and I get in the car I have to disengage the electric parking brake. It does not disengage on its own even if I put the transmission in gear and try to move off.

I swear mine has done this a few times too, automatically engaged the PBrake when I park. But I cannot remember the sequence of handwaving that made it happen. For me this has only happened in my garage, which I back into - maybe the car knows I am home. I'll play with it this week and see if I can deduce a pattern.

You should check this out. The PBrake should automatically disengage when applying throttle, in gear, trying to move off. There is something wrong if this does not happen.

Just checked this out. The parking brake *does* disengage when the transmission is in gear and when I let the clutch out.

I was expecting it to disengage when I shifted into gear.
