(Un)wanted attention?
I just asked Squidget but I want to hear everyone’s experience:
What’s the attention (unwanted or wanted) you’re getting while driving your car? Are people taking pictures of you driving? Talking to you? Following too closely? How do you feel about it? |

I’ve met an enormous amount of people in the one month I’ve owned this car. Probably more people than I’ve met in the past two years in total, to be honest. Everyone loves talking about it, for better or worse. It’s a new experience for me to get more attention than the McLarens, Porsches, Lamborghinis, and Ferraris parked only a few spots away.

The M2 comes in for more attention than any other car I have owned.
Almost every time I stop at a store, gas station, restaurant, and I encounter someone I get a favorable comment on the car. But there's more. A few weeks ago stopped at the I49 ramp and Walton Blvd stop light and spotted in the rear view mirror some kind of sports car coming up fast. Car pulled along side -- it was a Lotus -- and I had my window down. The driver shouted nice car through his car's rolled down passenger window then drove on. Just the other day turned onto a street that goes by the Carvana store. Some car coming the other way stopped in its lane and I slowed down thinking it was going to turn left in front of me. But it did not. As I drove by the driver was filming my car. Really, people are crazy about the car and the color. I don't mind. It comes with the territory. And so far all the responses/reactions have been better than hearing Ewww what a POS car... |

My car draws way more attention that I thought it would and I don't necessarily like it. It's all been positive, but sometimes inconvenient.
For example, I'll almost never able to just stop, fuel, go. Someone usually wants to come chat about the car, or as one lady did, want photographed with it. I'm not trying to sound curmudgeonly, I do like talking to people, the point is sometimes I need to get going and it's inconvenient. Again, it's all been positive whatever attention it gets. It's just a lot. In contrast, I had exactly 0 people ever talk to me about my F87.

I would wager it will quiet down in 6-12 months when there are more on the road.

I think the exclusive Zandvort blue color is the reason my car grabs so much attention in the DC area. People who don't know about BMWs asks if I custom painted the car. Almost every ride I take, I notice someone breaking their neck looking or pulling out their phones to take pictures. We also have a Facebook group called "Spotted in the DMV" that my car got posted up on 3 times (that I know of from friends) and the comments were both positive and negative. To be honest, it's a bit more attention than I want, but it's about my experience with this amazing car that I love.

Had some kids follow me into a parking lot once to drive around the M2 shooting video while asking me questions and complimenting it. And a thumbs up from a G82 M4 driver on the road. That’s about it.

I think more of it may also have to do with it's a slightly more attainable luxury performance car like a Corvette maybe. People can see themselves owning one and are definitely curious.

I am getting thumbs up and double takes on a daily basis. ZB really stands out plus the car is very new so most of the people probably seeing a G87 for the very first time. Last weekend a classic British roadster drove on my side for a few minutes to look at the car and the driver eventually gave a thumbs up. Even when I took the car to get ppf done, almost the entire staff came to check out the car, probably delayed the work getting done by 15-20 minutes.

Gotten some for sure, mostly highway driving.
There's not a lot of car culture in the South Shore part of Boston where I live (lots of farms), so not as much street chatter as other people are getting. But also not zero. I'm sure if I drove into downtown Boston, I'd get more attention. More car enthusiasts downtown and on the north metro side. But on the highways where it's more cosmopolitan, I've gotten a lot of "what the heck is that" pull-alongs and head turns. Even a lot of BMW owners don't know what it is. I've not found it bothersome, and I know it will fade over the next year anyway. |

The Blue color is the no.1 reason I get so much attention.. I don’t think it’s going away for a while even with more m2 s on the road now

For me, I would agree the color is the driver of the attention. That said, males age 12-45 immediately know what the car is, women just think it's pretty.

I had one of the first 100 of the mustang bullitts produced. I was glad to be done with the attention from that car. I didn't mind people taking pictures or asking about it, it was the constant stop light drag race challenges.
I got a lot of compliments on the m2c I had but don't have the g87 yet. |

You don't buy a car like this, especially in ZB, and not expect to get attention. Everywhere I go...
There is a serious downside to having 1 of 1 in town (so far) is that anytime it is spotted by someone I know I definitely hear about it. I mentioned this right after I bought it. Have been filmed and photographed a bunch, once with a kid hanging out a car window to film as they went by. It's all good. Interesting one this morning on my way to work. Saw someone nearly rear-end car in front of them because they were watching me go by. Come on people.

Driving up the Pikes Peak yesterday, there was Supra coming down the other way. The driver got his whole arm out of the window to give a thumbs up and a wave with a big grin on his face. Windshield repair guy came over today for the chip from yesterday and was blown away by the car, chatted maybe 5 minutes just about the car and the specs. I haven't had a day since I bought it that I have not received a positive reaction from someone.
