Silverstone Circuit

Silverstone
When was the track built?

Little did those laying the perimeter road to the RAF Silverstone airfield in 1942 know that they were setting down what would become one of the world’s greatest race tracks. But, well, they were! The Silverstone circuit was first used for a proper motor race in 1947 – although sadly, a local sheep lost its life during the proceedings…
When was its first Grand Prix?

Silverstone was the first Grand Prix, hosting the inaugural Formula 1 World Championship round on May 13 1950. Old campaigner Giuseppe Farina, who’d take that year’s title, won the race in his Alfa Romeo 158.
What’s the circuit like?

At the 2018 British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton compared a flat-out lap around Silverstone to flying a fighter jet, which should tell you all you need to know about the Northamptonshire circuit. Despite numerous layout changes over the years, Silverstone has always maintained its essential character as one of the fastest tracks on the F1 calendar, while historic corners like Maggotts, Becketts and Abbey provide some of the biggest challenges for racing drivers anywhere in the world.
Why go?

It’s hard to stop the goose bumps from prickling as you walk around one of the great cathedrals of motorsport, while in terms of atmosphere, the British fans are always reliably raucous – this is the country that invented football (that’s soccer, mind), after all.
Where is the best place to watch?

The Becketts grandstand has to rank highly on the ultimate list of places to watch an F1 car in action – believe us, your eyes will be on stalks when you see how quickly the drivers zip through Maggotts and Becketts. Further along the track, the Stowe grandstands will place you at one of the best overtaking spots, while watching the drivers chuck their cars into that corner on their own is nearly as good.

So after a devastating win from Max at the Red Bull Ring in every segment, will he be that strong on Silverstone too?
Despite Max losing out last year, mainly due to getting his car damaged by driving over a piece of carbon, and battling Ferrari, I think he will.
But I also expect Ferrari to be strong on this track.
But the big question is, what will McLaren, AMR and Merc do?

This is my prediction:
1. VER
2. PER
3. LEC
4. ALO
5. SAI

So a 1-2 for RB, hoping that Checo can keep his sh!t together.
My guess is Max will drive like a machine again. He and his team have so much control right now.

With SAI's displeasure at how his strat was conducted at Spielberg making him believe he is being controlled by Ferrari I can see the Spaniard getting more vociferous with his situation.

Checo
Carlos (winner last year)

That was utterly daft indeed. And I bet none of them pedalled their bicycles to the track.

Years ago, before hybrid engines and about 15 races per annum, I did a rough calc and came up that approximately one one-way flight of a 747 between London and Sidney used enough fuel to fuel every car, every session, including pre-season testing, marketing runs, etc. That flight happens multiple times every week.

I’m all for lowering carbon footprint. But daft folk hone in on daft issues. There are far bigger low-hanging fruit to pick.

This will be interesting:
F1 to test rain guards at Silverstone

As Pirelli is carrying out a tire test with Red Bull, Haas and Williams for two days at Silverstone, the wet weather test will take place on Thursday after the British race, with Mercedes and McLaren taking part. FIA’s aerodynamic team has put together a design for bolt-on wheel covering designed to prevent spray being thrown into the air and creating visibility issues that regularly leads to races being red-flagged.

Why have FIA brought in 50% battery in the first place for 2026? Sulayem has said himself the cars weight needs to be reduced, so his comments of reducing the F1's cars weight comparing it to when he was rallying stating a lighter car was a necessity just doesn't make sense. F1 needs a complete re-structure to their way of thinking well before the approach to 2026 before the teams are too committed into following this mistaken path.

The FIA ?
Frogs are usually 'green my friend !

The 2026 batteries will be at least 50 % bigger and extremely heavy .
The 2023 cars are already (too)! heavy, this means the 2026 cars will drive like fat heavy pigs ...
This in combination with a very small tinny combustion engine like a 3 cylinder .

How those cars will sound in 2026 ?
Well ...Like my expresso coffee machine !

It's a disaster my friend ....

And there is some talk of V8's and V10's which doesn't add up, it simply won't happen with this 50% battery thinking. `Sulayem and Dominaceli have to go and the FIA leadership process to vote someone in has to change.

Indeed and the only answer from a certain team manager is to keep on with the meaningless 'pub talk' and rumour spreading.
Team leader Christian Horner is of strong character and the desperate utterances directed at him are just water off a ducks back.

Wolfy must have been drunk when he blurted out another warning, perhaps he was referring to 'Warninks' advocaat that he is enjoying thinking about Max's domination, it's really a lot of bols he's saying lately
