BIMMERPOST

what? no hp bump for the manual? why? I have to put up with the weight, the lego styling and now you want to give me less HP because I have taste? why? what next, self driving or some other garbage? why would they do this to us?

Transmission limited for torque only.

My guess is because of concern for the transmission.

There's a 20HP bump for the '25 manual.
There is no torque bump for the '25 manual.
There's a 40-50 ft lb torque bump for the '25 auto.

The 23s and 24s are already underrated from the factory and the published numbers are closer to wheel power/torque. Until I see a dyno sheet that says otherwise, I'm going with any 2025 increases being a paper correction and not a change to engine tuning. Happy to be proven wrong though 🤷‍♂️

Nothing to do with the HP or TQ and transmission.
The MT can easily handle “extra” 25HP or TQ bump.
It is that they want to sway people away from the MT and ultimately will phase it out.
Additionally, only X-drive Comp got the bump with the G80/82. They want to differentiate those models more and probably will phase out the 2WD Comp in the future.

The manual M2 already dyno’s the same as the manual M3/M4, I suspect it’s just a paper bump. Unless they are making the M2 quicker than the M3/M4 which I highly doubt.

20HP to give up the transmission you want wouldn't sway anyone's decision. These cars are fast fast. 20HP won't be noticeable.

To clarify, both the AT and MT are getting a 20hp bump for MY25. The AT is also getting +37 lb-ft torque while the MT torque remains unchanged.

Evidence? Same day, same dyno only.

The 6m/t have a torque limit of 550nm the a/t can handle much more torque. Even the 3.0 CSL have surprise surprise 550nm of torque.

Yes, BMW puts a “paper” limit of 550Nm with all current or recent manuals using the variants of the S6-53 transmission. The ZF limit is 600Nm, but with dyno results higher than quoted, BMW probably want to stay below the ZF limit to alleviate any significant number of warranty claims.

Everything is getting electrified, so manuals are on their last breath regardless of the motivation.

If I was considering placing an order right now for an M2 the HP bump (along with new color options) might prompt me to wait for a MY2025 car, but I think I would be more of a fan of seeing if I could get a deal on a 2024. I have the 6mt and don't think the 20HP will feel much different-- if there was a torque increase like the auto that would be pretty noticeable. Flooring the car in 3rd gear over 4K RPM's still continues to scare me. Might need to start wearing diapers when I get a piggyback tune

20hp doesn't seem like much, but several people I've spoken to (some are G87 owners) that have driven both the G87 and G80/82 say the M3/4 seem to have a bit more punch than the M2. Don't know if that's actually true or if it's just their butt dyno.

Could be the tune/power curves causing that.

Could be but can't say for certain without hearing from more people that have driven both. I think this calls for a poll...

We need some members close to another compare their 2024 and 2025 cars on a dyno.
