03/2024.40 Update

I might be hallucinating but I feel that this update is addressing Transmission tuning but the end result is very poor.

I feel the acceleration map for comfort is waaayy mooooore comfort that it used to be. Before I felt while in Comfort the vehicle still has some stamina to push when needed but now Comfort feels very close to Eco Pro.

Also, Sport Plus feels a little detuned.

I really don't think I'm hallucinating. what changes have you noticed?

After an update, I suggest going on a more spirited drive to re-program the ecu for your driving style. Car should settle back to how it was before the update.

Interesting observation - I have to admit to driving in eco pro most of the time and did think it was lethargic yesterday - which is following the update. I tend to use the sport gearbox selector if I want to accelerate quickly to overtake etc as it is very tactile and easy to find versus the very flat mode buttons.

Just pull the right paddle in that case. Pops it straight into sport+ mode for overtaking.

Interesting, didn't know that. Seems to be a better way then looking down at the buttons and scrolling to Sport Plus.

Dumb question - but does it stay in Sport+ until you button press back to another drive mode ?

It reverts back to your previous mode once you’ve reverted to normal driving after “the sprint” (it’s called sprint mode).

I did the update a few days ago and as I drive like an old lady as my car is still in break in period, I didn't feel anything different. It still does wheelspins with 50-60% throttle.

For US folks, I think it is holding down the left paddle instead to activate it.

How long does it take to go back once you have reverted to normal driving ? I noticed that it switches from say D to Mx when you hit the paddle but it varies as to how long it takes to go back to D - is there something you can do to make it go back to D

Hold the upshift paddle until it changes to D

I just had 03/2024 applied to my car this week. Only 2 drives so far, but I haven't really noticed any changes (other than the font which was because my 07/2023 did not update properly). Drivability seems about the same to me.

Have some problems with this update as well. Very rough idle after start up for the first few sec and i could feel it wasnt running 100% right.

Yesterday brought it in to had it check up and now booked for 28th may to change all injectors under warranty. Only happed after the update that i felt it.
Also asked if that they do a compression test/ boroscope to see if the injectors fault didnt fuck up the engine since i had a long drive after the i had the update last weekend.

Ironic that you noticed the issue after the update. I recall a thread from other 230i (B48) owners about rough idle. Likely something pertaining to the B48 more than the fact you did the update.

I honestly don't know what happened after the update but it really feels like I'm driving a camry now.

What I notice is that the auto stop start is less rough when coming to a stop, like if they did tuning to make it more livable but because of that now the transmission is too lazy. It takes up to a second to downshift when flooring the gas pedal.

Very hard to prove without date before and after but truly something changed in my car. Very disappointed.

I think I'll take it in to the dealer to read codes/DTCs but so far no lights at all in the dashboard.

Is this issue on the b58 engine also? 🤔 I see most of the issues are on b48 engine.

Update installed successfully, pretty quickly as well. Only some things had to be recoded with BimmerCode. My XHP trans tune did NOT need to be recoded. Can confirm she still drives amazingly with that tune 😎

Do they really touch ECU / TCU coding with these software updates?

I suspect this latest update is more of a hotfix to what seemed like a problematic previous update release. Hence the quicker install time.

Does the car behave more like a DCT after this tune e.g. downshifts?
I really miss DCT with this gearbox and upshift farts
