Replacing lock/unlock button surround with chrome

The 2024 M2 has black plastic surrounding the lock/unlock button on the doors. I saw the 2023 2-series came with silver, part #51415A014F4. Has anyone successfully replaced this? Is it as simple as popping the surround out or will I need to take the door card off? 60 bucks seems like a relatively cheap OEM interior upgrade and I love the chrome look.

I guess it's more like brushed aluminum not chrome.

Gladly! I tried to order the part but it's not in stock in Germany/US anymore. Looks like the X5 might use a similar part. I couldn't find it at all for the G80/82 which makes me think it's not removable.

If it's removable, I'd happily trade you. Actually it appears as if it's just missing the aluminum-look piece. I'll take a close look at mine when I'm back in my car on Wednesday.

Parts diagram suggests that is it removeable.

I too want to swap them with the silver ones. OP did you end up changing them? Is it a plug n play pull and push operation for the trim pieces? Thanks!

I popped one out to make sure it could be done. I tried ordering the silver ones but was told that they aren't in stock anywhere. I look at several parts diagrams for other cars (M3, M235i, X2, X5, and Z4) and it doesn't seem like any use this specific type. The X5's are close but the tabs appear different. I asked the parts place (BMW Northwest) whether they would come back in stock or if BMW deprecated the silver. I did not receive a response.

I've been a little too busy to do anymore research, unfortunately.

I do appreciate your reply OP thanks for your info.
Seems like there are a couple cosmetic changes whether it’s tied to cost cutting or product positioning (for silver switches when one chooses galvanic control). I noticed my car comes with black with white stripes seat adjuster compared with silver ones also so it could be some new supplier thing.
I will ask my dealer as well and see if they have some parts laying around but glad to hear it can be done by just popping them off. Was thinking about changing and a voice in my head told me if I really want to deal with this small thing vs potentially introduce some rattles from removing trims pieces.

What’s the part number for the other side? I can also check with the dealer

I think they all use the same parts system. Last time I tried ordering, they told me none were actually available. That was a month ago. I sent a followup email just now. Let's see if things changed.

@OP how do you pop out the parts? Does the door card need to be removed?

Confirmed, 2 sources said they are unavailable for ordering at this time. I may just need to pop the ones off my daughter's '23 M240, think she would know the difference?

If you want to exchange your black surround trim pieces for my silver, or buy an extra set of black to send me, I'm happy to do it.

That's so kind of you, but I can't find the black ones in stock either!

I ordered them from getbmwparts but they have to get them from Germany to fulfill the order, which they are doing.
