TR M2 - Powder Coat or Exchange
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I have a TR m2 and not liking my black wheels anymore. They’re in perfect condition so would be willing to do an exchange with someone for silver ones, if interested. I’m located in the Southeast US. Otherwise, wanted to seek your opinions on best / trendy colors for powder coating existing wheels for a TR m2. TIA! |

If it is in your budget, instead of putting any money into powder coating, I would look into a set of aftermarket forged rims to your style/color liking, with proper offset, and call it a day. The stock fims are cast, heavy and fitment doesnt do the car any justice. To defray any costs, you could sell the stock rims or keep them for emergencies or to put back on the car when selling/trading in |

Personally, I'd put the $600-800 you'll spend on powdercoating toward a new set of wheels. Sell your stockers for $800-900 & you're halfway to a nice set of forged wheels with better offsets.

If you're looking to powdercoat, I like bronze. I have a set of motorsport gold wheels on my car. Just get spacers to make sure the wheels sit flush with the car and you're good to go.

Powder coat silver. No question. You can also go with the bi-color. I have TR and Bi-Color wheels. Love it. The stock wheels are fine for normal and or fun non track drives. No one testing it thinks the car lacks good wheels or is compromised in performance with them.

It may have some benefit, but depending on the previous heat treatment of the wheel, the alloy used, the temperature the powder coating is done at, how the wheel is heated and for how long and how rapidly it is cooled, powder coating can also have a detrimental affect on wheel strength.

It does not make it stronger. Not even a bit. Powder coat is not as good as good paint and it's not making the alloy stronger, only weaker if it was already a forged wheel that was annealed.
