Noice. Wasn't expecting the result on the brakes test but fair play.

I think its amazing how fast the BMW tank suv's are these days... with that being said, the M2 actually did very well off the line (far better than its predecessor would have).

It also depends on the tyres, how much heat is in them and the brake pads and the road surface. If they did the test close to the acceleration tests, then the XM with AWD would likely have more grip in the front tyres due to them being warmer. The XM was likely on Pirelli P-Zero (PZ4) tyres, as all the 23" wheels in photos seem to have them. The M2 could have been on the same tyre or the Michelin PS4S.

XM should be so much faster for the price. Seems like a Cayanne GT will smoke it, maybe that’s the label red…
For how heavy it is they should have just made it a 1200hp full electric suv |

Hmmm. Halo M car that wasn’t able to show the “entry level” M car who is the boss. Braking was impressive but all that power in the XM goes nowhere with all the heft of the PHEV system. I think the X5M comp is a better M SUV proposition.

The pinnacle, most expensive, most powerful of BMW's M division beaten by the cheapest, least powerful car made by the M division...good work lads!😂 Still, people will still buy the XM, because...it's expensive...

I would agree. Even in controlled situations it is very difficult to compare like-with-like. The best test of brakes is how well they work on a track over 20 mins or more of hard use, with the comparison cars lapping together at the same pace.

Sums up BMW’s lack of clear direction. There is nothing ‘M’ about the XM other than the engine. And the only reason it has such a big engine is to overcome the bloated pig that it is. The fact they made the XM their ‘Halo’ car is an insult to everything M stands for .

It should also be noted that the M2 is RWD with no mild hybrid assist. Matt also thought the only reason the XM won the brake test was because it has electrical regen which assisted it during braking. The M2 punched above its weight while the XM got punched in the face.

I think the regen has a lot to do with the braking. That thing is 5,900lbs. No way standard steel brakes are going to stop it, like that. Doesn’t matter what size rotors and calipers it has.

This video's entertainment value of two vehicles with diabolically opposing potential for success is only exceeded by the hollow echo of practical knowledge gained.
To Matt and Car Wow team: XM vs 1930 Duesenberg J Dual-Cowl Phaeton drag race would be even more entertaining. Duesenberg may still gather more fans despite having a dated powertrain. https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Even...PHAETON-201957 |
