What's your daily driver/beater?
I bought a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee(WJ) for $500 on CL a few months ago and finally finished this project. I have added LED light bars, insane stereo system, CB radio, new interior carpeting and spray painted it Monte Carlo Blue(wanted the same color as my X5M) along with other things I'm forgetting.
The truck was bought in an ugly scratched up Maroon color, I then plasti dipped the entire truck flat black but quickly got bored with the murdered out look. I eventually bought 10 cans of BMW MCB spray paint along with 10 cans of clear coat. It took me roughly 3 months to get it they way I wanted There's no better feeling when you don't need to worry about where you park your car in case someone dings or dents your doors, bumpers etc. Feel free to share pics of your DD/Beaters Here are some pics of this fun little project

03 Toyota Corolla S, purchased used about 3 years ago with 150k miles. It has some dents and paint scratches on it that I have no plans on fixing. Oil changes and tires are all I will do for a beater. Just hit 200k miles a month or two back. Blackstone oil analysis shows a healthy engine. Round trip commute for work is 90 miles.

I went through a couple Grand Cherokees when I had my 135is. First a beat up '99 Limited 4.7 and then an '05 Limited Hemi. Then I got sick of having 2 cars, sold the Jeep, and replaced my 135is with a 335xi that I drive every day.

My wife refused to get rid of her college car, which was an '01 Ford Explorer Sport 2wd. We always had our "nice cars" (the BMWs) but kept that for errands, Home Depot, throw the bikes in the back etc. But recently sold it on CL to a State Trooper was looking for a first car for his kid. It's at a happy new home, but I'm eyeing my mother-in-laws 2001 Tahoe as my next beater.

2003 Mini. Bought it from my daughter 3 years ago with 85K miles. Just went over 101K. 28 mpg city. Got two sets of rims with winter and summer tires. Plus it's white with red interior!
My work commute is 6 miles one way, and a totally mundane suburban drive. 14 traffic lights, speed limit never more than 35 mph, and straight. Just doesn't seem worth getting the BMW dirty and risking parking dings, so I seldom drive it to work. I'm putting about 3500 miles per year on the 2er.

2001 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner V6 sitting at 217k miles. Biggest work it has required was changing out a leaking radiator about two years ago. Only asks for oil changes every 3k miles, otherwise she just keeps goin. Great truck!
Unfortunately with the M at <50k miles, it lingers in the back of my mind that the bearings or actuators might go unexpectedly. Last edited by M43S7RO; 09-16-2016 at 10:12 PM.. |

That's a very nice Jeep beater project you've got there. I might take up something like that this winter to fight off boredom.
My beater is the 335i. I use my crap-box 2011 Nissan Sentra only when I'm wrenching on the bimmer or have to travel out of state for work. Daily: Backup:
