I've placed my deposit on an M2 so it's obvious how I feel about the car (hint: it's awesome and I love it).

That said, I hope Chris Harris trashes it just so we can enjoy the fallout from everyone who has hung their hope on Harris as The One Objective Journalist to Validate Their Choice (along with Jackie Ding and anyone else who likes the car, of course).

Chris can be relied upon to tell it as he experiences it....we already know and it is very human to have our collective choice (purchase) validated by this exceptional driver.

He couldn't have said it any better...
"I like this car... but you know what, I think I like this car even more because other people don't like this car."

I bought this manual G87 and fell in love immediately, and when I watched others trash the car (::cough:: TH), I smirked and walked to my car and wanted to drive it even more.

I particular appreciated his views on F series owners trashing it and how this is really the successor to the E46. The E46 was the car I had on my wall and the reason I have a G87.

I am so tired of the hate on the G series cars - I happen to appreciate just about every generation of BMWs. The G series is more aggressive and muscular looking the previous series - I can appreciate that. I also appreciate how sculpted the F series is.

Anyway, fun review love seeing the BSM on scenic roads in 4k.

I ordered mine without a review or Youtube video. I bought my 2017 M2 and only watched Chris Harris review for that.

He brings to life words and video of feelings and appreciation for cars, all types of cars like no other person. Throttle House and others can just fk right off.

A great review, which is exactly what I expected from Chris - very fair and even. Plus he track tested the MT, which says a lot about how he feels about the MT over the AT.

Also, I see a reason not to have the carbon buckets, either that or Chris needs to move from boxers to something more supportive.

Did that review feel incomplete to anyone else? I felt like he was just getting into it and then it just…ended.

Funny you should mention that. I felt the same way. This video was more of a proclamation than a traditional review. Chris has been very vocal about the haters and keyboard warriors on social media. Several weeks ago, Chris published an article addressing the fact Consumers and journalists alike, sometimes make harsh initial judgements. He continues to suggest that he is challenged and dismayed by the hate that seems to be dispatched on every new car model. This video was more of a STFU public service announcement. 😀

But yes, every time we hear people confirm what we’ve been saying, perhaps more eloquently, it’s good: it’s the best car in the world.

That aerodynamic rubber piece under the front bumper? I’ve seen it in a few cars. Is it standard in Euro cars?
Chris has never been very accurate with his facts, he doesn't read the spec sheets and remember them, he is all about the feeling of driving the cars, which is the inportant aspect as opposed to what is on the spec sheet. This is also why I find Car magazine so good compared to other automotive magazines, you won't find an instrumented test sheet or list of all the specs, just the driving impressions, there are plenty of other soutces for the numbers.

I guess he knew he was late to the party, so no sense in dwelling on previously discussed topics. So he just needed to give his overall impressions.

That said, are you surprised he likes the car better than the previous one, including the CS, and he’s amazed anyone could get in a F87 (OG, C, or CS) and not think the G87 is just objectively better? I think you doubted he would.
Yes, i am a little surprised.

If you watch his 1m vs f87 video, he spends the whole video talking about how much better the f87 is to the 1m, only in the last few minutes to say he prefers the 1m despite its technical inferiority because of, lets say, “intangibles.” This review felt like the exact same video, but with the last few minutes cut out.

From a review perspective, there wasn’t much presented here that couldn’t be found reading a spec sheet. Bigger engine, more powerful, yes. Adaptive dampers, better ride, yes. Improved interior, more comfortable, yes. I reserve judgement about his opinion on the manual since (I believe) all the part numbers are the same as the old one, but sure. Same with his mistake about the dual clutch being available (im sure he just misspoke).

My point being, he didn’t seem to discuss the g87s “intangibles,” which is weird bc i always saw harris as one of the few modern reviewers skilled enough to properly evaluate “intangibles,” and something his reviews are normally known for since he puts such emphasis on how a car “feels.”

(And im not sure how to say this without you getting all roidrage-y, but when ppl say the old m2 is better, they are not talking about the technical performance, but the “intangibles”)

From my seat, I observed him speak about intangibles more so than tangibles. He didn’t talk about any particular “figure” precisely, to focus on the intangibles.

Weight: said an E30 would feel heavier
Suspension: said it’s controlled, and wheel control is like never seen before
Power: loads of torque and power (contrary to, say, TH)
Playfulness: discussed and showed how the car is fun to drive
Human interaction and ergonomic: he talks about how the connection with the clutch and the gearbox is perfect.

Again, I’m not the target audience because I know all that… some believe a figure like him more than they would a figure like me, so maybe some will listen to him.

My point remains, though: while he (and I) are absolutely correct about this being the best car in the world, all one has to do is go drive one and figure out if it fits their needs. It’s not hard to do, and much easier (and less aggravating) than conjecturing about things we’ve never seen or done based on “part numbers” and “figures on a spec sheet”.

He doesn’t touch much on the intangible of looks, but I’ve driven by older M2s, and it just makes them look tame and weak in comparison. But this is very subjective.
I sum it thusly: if you want a 1m, buy an f87; if you want an m4, buy a g87. If you cant tell the difference, buy an audi.

(Also, the ferarri f355 is actually the best car in the world)
