For anyone that’s interested in daily commuting in their G87 and what kind of fuel economy you can expect….Not sure how the EPA comes up with the hwy mpg rating but it’s wayyyyyyy off. The car is far more efficient than what the EPA and BMW would have you believe. This was after driving for about 40 minutes. It was actually still going up but I got tired of driving with cruise control. Was cruising at 70 MPH in 8th gear with the AC running as well and 94 octane and I have a RaceChip installed so making almost 550 wheel HP.

39.4 miles driven and getting 31.1 mpg. It’s like 35% more fuel efficient than advertised and was still climbing.

I posted several times in another thread I'm getting over 29 mpg on a 250 mi trip with the auto cruise set to 84-85 mph. I make that trip almost every weekend, and as long as traffic isn't bad, I avg around 28-29.

JABCAT Are you also ZF8?
That’s some pretty impressive hwy mileage.
Does that include any spirited slow-car passing or is it mostly grandpa driving?

One should add, driving in efficency/comfort, sport or sport plus as well as for those with the 8AT, what setting do you have the transmission in (the button on the shifter that has three possible settings).

I am fully built (stock internals, turbos, intake manifold, injectors and fuel pump) on a Stage 2 custom tuned on maps for 93, E30 and E40 (kill map ) and the trans is also custom tuned. I have used the 93 octane tune but primarily keep on the E40 and usually drive in sport plus with the transmission set at II or III:

93 octane in sport with trans in II: ~25mpg
E40 in sport plus with trans flip flopped between II and III: ~22 to 23mpg

Yes, auto & it includes passing slow vehicles (a few triple-digit jaunts). I've seen 28.5-29 in Sport mode & upper 29 in Efficient mode.

yeah, i think the range extension is probably the best (to me) argument for the ZF8. With the 6 speed i am lifetime around 17 and best highway around 24-25. but if i was really worried about range or mileage i would have scooped up a nice FK8 CTR

Dang, how are you getting such high economy?

My lifetime average is 16mpg. My best on highway is 27mpg. Maybe its because Im using 91 octane (California)?

I daily the car for past 14 months.
Average about 18mpg. I drive at 8/10 90% of the time. Just my style. Barely get 200 mi out of a tank.

Frankly no. Car is scary at the limit, and on public roads surely would be disastrous. Wouldn’t have made it to 14 months.
I will occasionally drift on late night drives, but that would be I guess 11/10 over the limit.

Of course.

App says there’s room to improve. I’ll shoot for 15mpg for 2024.

You have to realize that there is a lot of variables for real world mpg. Location, altitude, temperature, flat vs hilly, stop and go, other vehicles, construction, etc. My drive to work can be anywhere from 25 mpg to 17 mpg just because i left 10 mins earlier or later.

I don't know if there are set requirements for companies to post avg mpg so they all have the same variables or not, but i assume that bmw down plays the numbers (just like hp numbers).

It’s odd to me that the six speed has a higher official mpg rating to me.

I was just driving around yesterday after filling up (range warning came on at 150mi ) and wanted to see what light driving could do.

I was getting ~40mpg keeping it around 2k - 3k rpm and being light on the gas. You gotta work for it but it's very doable albeit very boring.

Maybe it's just the type of person to get the MT and post on this forum are more likely to have a certain driving style...?
