How exactly did you add that option?

In expert mode, you have to type in "Sound" in the search bar. Then the first 2 options that come up, you have to click on them and make them "Active". Once you do that, "Sporty" will be added. You can also YouTube it to get a better idea.

Awesome thanks! I was thinking it must be in expert mode as I didn't see it in the normal mode.

I bought the modBMW adapter (courtesy of Vudumonkey25 ) and chose the cheap shipping option. Came out to $57 and it arrived from Bulgaria in about 2 weeks. They do offer a faster shipping option via DHL for $20 extra

I don't think that has anything to do with the exhaust valves. That should be for the Active Sound in your car aka the artificial engine noise being piped in from your speakers.

Engine noise is not the same as exhaust noise and from what I was told, you can not code out the exhaust valves for them to stay open.

From what I have seen elsewhere in the forum, you can use bimmerlink to control the exhaust valves. It’s another app that connects to your OBD adapter.

Yes, you can control it with BimmerLink. However, that means you have to connect every time that you get in the car, open the valves using the app. It will revert back to being closed every time you shut off the car. From the developer in regards to the exhaust valves:

Ah, I didn’t get that piece of information from the post I saw. That’s definitely not an ideal solution.

I also coded the M virtual cockpit which looks way cooler than the standard one in my opinion. It won't let me code the car to start in sport mode as it gave me a message that my adapter doesn't work for that module. Speaking of the adapter which one are you all using? I have the veepeak one.
What is the difference between the M virtual cockpit and the standard?

Man, this was the best tip I found online for my car!
Coded it in, and now also in comfort mode, the flaps stay open and give sporty sound (always on)
Thank you a milion times!

ModBMW is a really good wireless adaptor, might be worth a mention to any who’ve not used a wifi adaptor before turn the phone or tablet to Flight mode and then connect with the ModBMW wifi.
Works a treat
Some easy starting coding that’s very useful

Add Auto stop start memory
Remove nag screen messages
Start car in Sport individual/Dynamic
Add "sporty" (always open) to engine sound menu
Change screen and dash layout to M (or any of the other configurations)
Add bowers and Wilkins sound profiles
Start AC in in recirculation mode
All good using it as a G20 and tested with the latest firmware (March release - just updated)

Currently the G42 is not officially supported by Bimmercode for coding so selecting the G20 series as the target vehicle allows you to code the same control units as we have where similar hardware is fitted.
You might have access to code the headlights in advanced mode but because the headlights are physically different I'd not go there. All the others are dual headlights.

Hey All - What is special about the ModBMW ODB adapter compared to others on the Bimmercode site list? I'd prefer not to wait two weeks, and prefer to go with one that will ship faster. Thanks

It's a wireless adaptor therefore substantially faster than bluetooth
It also has an ethernet port and it's a reasonable price
There's also the Kies motorsport adaptor which looks the same, not sure on price.

Question: If I code stuff using BimmerCode, would that void my warranty?

BMW provide all the functions that are selectable in coding to comply with different regulations or needs in different regions.
If you look at coding just a selection of what BMW already provides how could warranty be denied as you are not modifying anything outside what BMW provide.
However in advanced mode you can break functionality which would definitely not be covered along with any consequential damage.
BMW would not be impressed with turning on, in some cases, options you had to pay for like Apple carplay.
It's not like you are tuning or modifying outside BMW specifications
If you are not a coding expert and stay out of advanced mode you can't really break anything
