I’m going to get the car back good as new and will continue to enjoy it and not worry about every little stone chip and possibly tune it and do other things I wouldn’t have

Yes both paths have been running through my head since the accident. I love the car and I hope it isn't as bad as it seems and I can get it back relatively soon.

But the other path is also there. Will I always have a nagging feeling about it? Why not start fresh?

I don't know, but if they were to total it, what happens next for me depends on how much they write it down before paying out. Fortunately I put a substantial amount down so won't be hurt from an "upside down" loan perspective, but every dollar under what I paid is a dollar taken out of what I put down.

Yep, I had easily put $10k in to mods which was another factor. Can’t replace PPF, Ceramic etc and the fact insurance would definitely try lowball even if they did Write it off

Don’t think about it too much, insurance will decide and from my experience they are slow to write it off. The repair bill would need to be astronomical

Take "loss of use" payment if you don't take the rental.

No matter how good of a shop it will never be equal to factory.
Cars CAN often be repaired to factory spec, even panel fitments, but you need a good shop and you need to stay on top of it.

But yes, it really depends. Body panels and exhausts, no problem. If they attempt a frame straightening, huge problem. (But that's not much of a thing anymore.)

Timing matters. How long will you wait if you go through the alloc process again? Buying now puts you into 2024 model year.

BMW, as a rule, isn't going to put you first of line just because you wrecked a car. Dealers owe you nothing either, though they might help you out if you have a relationship.

Yep. Although I've been in a few fender benders and the impact sensors seem VERY aggressive in cutting off the motor. So that latter condition shouldn't have happened. Key would "shouldn't."

Damn I dodged a few bullets with deers on my m2 cs when I lived in Colorado. Definitely a risk with the mountain driving but so much fun. I think I have it on gropro somewhere. Sorry this happened, hope they total it and you can get another one asap- and at least you made it out alright

Glad you’re ok! Back in 1999 I had two deer nearly run into the side of my car. One slid and turned and just missed the mirror. Another jumped over the front of the hood and luckily neither hit the car. My GF at the time (now wife) nearly peed herself as it was the passenger side of the car 😆

Indeed, which is why other than being bummed, I'm pretty chill about it. Could have been way worse.

Sorry this happened.
I appreciate your input on these boards, so hopefully you’re back in an M2 soon.

I hit a deer at 70mph back in 1997 in an Opel Corsa POS. Wasn’t pretty.

Sorry to see you having to deal with this, Justin. Great that you’re ok and the rest will likely take care of itself (with a bit of work on your part). Good luck with the claim process. Hopefully you’ll be back on the road soon.

There I was hoping to see your car at Kies show today. Maybe this explains why not. Best of luck with repairs.

Btw, I counted 6 or 7 G87s at the show today, all ZB. Presumably mostly HEAs, or people really favor ZBs, which doesn’t see to be from polling here. Was really hoping to see TR in person.

This doesn’t look totaled, especially if the air bags didn’t deploy.

Good luck! Health is wealth!

Hi Justin,

This sucks and I'm very sympathetic since we drive on roads that look similar even if a few thousand miles apart. At least you managed to find a spot that wasn't also populated by a large tree or boulder. So little room for contingencies on these roads.

Fingers crossed that your shop has better things to say than the wrecker.

Best,

Nick

This is actually the funny part about this. Definitely unwanted attention.

I saw this thread yesterday and since then I have been curious.... I know ZB wasn't your first choice of color, but after having it for this short amount of time would you spec it if you get an allocation? I'm curious if it has grown on you.

Given current choices, yes.

Oh man, as soon as I saw that side pinstripe on the front page of bimmerpost I had a bad feeling it was your car. Super unfortunate but glad you're alright!

If the underside frame isn't bent or badly damaged, it should be pretty easy to get this thing back on the road! This would make for some absolutely sick youtube content if you decided to fix it yourself
