MAD vs AA Single Resonated Midpipe?

I can find a bunch of videos of the AA single resonated midpipe and love the sound. I'm curious about the MAD single resonated midpipe as it's half the price, but I can't find any videos of it on a G87 M2. Does anyone have this midpipe with stock back box and stock DP that could take a video or any videos online already that I'm missing? Thanks!

Second this. I've asked MAD, who reported that the res midpipe and some of their other offerings are still (too) relatively new. Not sure what happened to the test cars to which they may have had access during their development but they do have some clips on their YT channel and some scattered elsewhere. However, not a lot on the G87--that can find, either...yet. I'm not doing any exhaust work until the Spring, so I'm happy to keep patiently searching as clips (hopefully) appear.

Still, finding vids of discrete installations of midpipes (res or non-res) vice the seemingly growing number of YT vids that combine DPs (cat'd and catless) and/or aftermarket axel-backs with midpipes is a bit challenging. I've found a few for AA, Open Throttle, etc. that are helpful/useful. Not a complaint, just an admittedly limited (perhaps myopic) observation.

Glad it's not just me! Thanks for the video. In the upper rev range it gets buzzy which I'm not a fan of. I don't know if that's the axel back or the midpipe or the combo. It seems like the AA doesn't have that as much and it's just smooth sounding throughout the rev range. But always rough to judge on video and with all the different YouTube videos floating around with all different mod combos.

Both midpipes are the same design, made of 304 stainless steel and with almost exactly the same dimensions. they are going to sound very similar

I'm not sure if it was just the video posted earlier in this thread or the added on axel back, but the MAD sounded more buzzy at the very upper rev range compared to the AA when they reved it after installation. Are their resonators the same? That's my only thought of what could be varying between them to change the buzzy tone. I'm looking for the smoothest sound throughout.

a few things to consider, the midpipe in that video is not resonated and the downpipes are high flow catted. that combo will be raspy and aggressive.

it can easily be fixed by going with stock downpipes or getting the resonated midpipe.

the resonators are the same size

Straight midpipe + high flow catted downpipes will sound raspy for sure.

That is why i always recommended the resonated midpipe with upgraded downpipes, even if they are 400 CEL

I know the midpipe + axelback was way above 100 which wouldn't be an option for me since it would fail me on the majority of circuits.

unfortunately, I do not have any data, but the resonated single midpipe on its own is a very mild upgrade. I can't imagine that would cause a problem on any track.

Most tracks by me (Arizona) and others on the west coast (Laguna Seca etc) measure it at WOT flyby 50 feet from the car.

For example this weekend at Arizona Motorsports Park they put up two green cones on a straight that we were instructed to drive between. We would drive WOT at those cones (the start line basically ), until we drove between 2 cones further down the straight (finish line). The sound mic was on the side of the track 50 ft away around half way between those start and stop cones.

Bring that there is different gears and rpms when passing these sound mics depending on the track I would want to make sure it would be under 96dB in any gear or rpm at WOT.

so a 105 db from a few ft could be 96 without a problem from 50 feet.

Here is a copy and paste from another thread. Our single will be slightly louder than this setup duer to the secondary cat removal.

Here is some neat info from user MASHCT Showing the difference a valve controller can make on his M2

Mods:
-Dinan X Midpipe
-MAD axle back exhaust
-Valve controller

IDLE:
100% open eco mode is 83db
OEM setting, eco mode is 78db

Full Rev
50% Mode Eco: 89db
50% Mode M2: 95db (got burbles, no cracks/bangs)

OEM Eco: 107db
OEM M2: 112db (got burbles and cracks/bangs)

100% Mode 115db, M2 mode activated

I wonder how much the MAD axle back added to the overall volume of the system.

Would it be bad to run the car hard with the valves closed? I only ask because if I do go with the resonated midpipe if it ends up being too loud to pass the sound test I wonder if it would pass with the valves closed.

I'm surprised there's no track junkie thread with people doing these tests! I'll have to start one

Not entirely sure on what the axle back added.

You do not want to run the valves closed. No less than 50% would I recommend for track.

I don't recommend running the car on the track with the valves fully closed.

Why are tracks becoming so strict with sound restrictions? Tracks are meant to be a place for enthusiasts to enjoy driving their cars.

I understand there are extremes where the noise can become excessive and disruptive, but there should be a reasonable middle ground, and right now, track regulations seem far from it.

It's getting worse and worse and will continue to get even worse as time goes on. The main problem is housing. People moving in miles away, but still knowing there's a race track nearby and that was there first. They get officials involved who end up putting more restrictions. That or investors come in and buy the land with an offer the owners can't refuse, track closes and becomes housing.

Some places in the country aren't as bad and you would think the southwest would be pretty open and not have sound limits, but it does. Stupidest part is that Luke Air force Base is next to the track and has jets taking off which is super loud but not regulated.

You wouldn't believe the number of stock Porsches with stock exhausts that are running turn away pipes stuck into their exhausts to pass the test.

I have a E36 M3 race car with a built S54 motor that I brought hoping it would pass. Not even close by their tests I was 102.8dB. Heading back to the race shop to install a resonator and get some turn away tips for track days.

Exactly, it's because of the homes and businesses that keep inching towards the tracks.

Same with gun ranges. Family owned ranges built in BFE nowhere. Developers build homes up against the ranges and homeowners complain and ranges get closed.

That's sad; regulating the sound on the road makes some sense, but on the track, it makes zero sense.

Unfortunately, I would not be surprised if in our lifetime, we reach a point where officials are regulating the armed forces for sound and emission. once the track is fully regulated, these loud jets are next

Just finished install of the MAD Resonated Midpipe. The only other exhaust 'mod' I have is the SST Controller. This is BY FAR the best money I've spend on a car. A Midpipe and the iSweeps are the must have mods for the G87 platform.

Thanks to mike@x-ph.com for getting my order out so quick. From order to front door in less than a week!
