Dear BMW
Please don't do us dirty with those screens. You know it's overboard. Dial it back. Your last great ICE M car deserves proper gauges. And buttons/knobs.
Imagine this car in 30 years. How are those screens going to age? Will they even work? Please. Sincerely, Justin

This is non issue for me I would perfer the screen and open source the display configuaration. Plus this will help F87 retain some of its value. It would add way to much cost to retool there assembly line so m2 could have analog gagues.

BMW, if you're reading this, we don't want the Comp models to be auto tranny only. This isn't a poser mobile that um, some other models seem to be. We want the same power output between transmissions and we want the higher powered Comp model, if there will be one, to come in a manual. You have literally zero excuses why this can't be done, none. Unless, of course this is a bragging rights thing and this car isn't catered to enthusiasts.
Sincerely, Car enthusiasts who happen to be ///M buyers

Dear Justin,
Do you know how much money we are about to make off this shit? Suckers see it and think they're living in the goddamn future! Check back in a decade from now and we will have moved on. Sincerely, BMW |

As soon as reasonably achievable, I'll be buying a replacement screen to squirrel away. In 30 years I'll be cashing in on it when some guy with a 6k mile example that sat in the garage needs one because his stopped working.

I bet these two could hack into the car and change the gauges into nice circular ones, I really liked the e46 ones myself.

i saw 2 iterations of these screens-
The one in the bmw iX suv... which were beyond horrid. And the ones in the bmw i4 m50... which looked quite nice because they were a bit smaller and partially more curved... i would not mind the latter.

ID8 in the new X1 is the best looking I've seen since it's not just a rectangle, but I still don't like that it's not integrated into the dash. Also can't stand the digital cluster design, reminds me of less than, greater than symbols < >. I don't understand what's so hard about providing an analog design option.

All about perception. If you were getting a '23 you'd be singing a different tune.

But then I drove an i4M50, which reportedly has the same i8 screens, and was pleasantly surprised. They are super bright and clear, and can be configured to a certain extent. Not nearly as bad as I thought. Plus, if the car has the fabulous S58 engine, a 6MT, 450+ hp, gets to 60 mph in under 4 seconds and handles well .... then SIGN ME UP! |

Go look at a Nav screen from 2010. I don’t mind the digital stuff as much it not being integrated into the dash. The stuck on ipad looks very bad for a sports car interior. |

When the F87 M2c came out the first thing most noticed was the revised analog dash which looked digital. It was just tinted glass over the cluster with backlit gauges. When the power was off it was all black and fooled everyone into thinking it was digital, but it looked great because of the high contrast and traditional gauges. And you know what, it still looks great to this day. They could do the exact opposite with the digital dash. Make simple analog round gauges that sweep clockwise and everyone would love it. Is that so hard BMW? |
