CDV Delete Pros/Cons
Hello,
I have not found the answer I am looking for. Right now, I’m looking to improve my 6MT shift feeling. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good…but not great. Initially I was going to opt in for the short throw shifter from Rogue, but upon research, the install is very intrusive. I hear some news about vibrations as well from it. Has anyone done a CDV delete? What are your experiences if so? I’m looking for pros/cons on this, as well as any help in improving my shifting experience. I drive pretty smooth normally, but when I get on it WOT dumping clutch, I see where the shifts can improve. Seems a bit sloppy, and some lag between clutch coming back to your foot and engaging another gear + gas in. I know this experience can improve, I just want to take the minimalist approach before I just opt in for rogue or CAE shifter. Thanks! |

I see this situation on other forums and around this one. Yet this debate continues but those semi-pro/pro drivers take these cars out and set superb lap times with the CDV in place correct?

It made a huge difference in feel with the delete and short shift kit in the F8X, but not sure about G8X.

As someone who has the following done (I offer these insights);
Rogue SSK CDV deleted PTB racing clutch BMS clutch stop Rogue SSK really helped the reduce the "slack" and tightened things up. (Mainly the upgraded rear carrier mount that gets ride of the rubber bushings) I'll be switching to one from "Auto Solutions" as it has more of a "pop" feel when it gets into the gears, where the Rogue almost feels too raw. CDV: one of my favorite mods for going WOT. My clutch no longer gives me that massive delay where I felt like I was waiting for my clutch pedal to "load". In addition to the CDV I added a clutch stop, as the last 1.2-2.5cm's of throw don't do anything, this mod takes out that "delay" you're feeling. Upgraded the clutch, a bit firmer pedal feel. Most importantly my car can now take the upgraded power. Let me know if you have any questions, happy to help. |

Auto solutions are great, you can really customize to whatever you want. I had one on my 2020 M2C with 20% reduction and the softest bushings. I'd probably go 15% here as I prefer a slightly longer throw. For the CDV delete are you replacing it with a specific part?

In the past the CDV is deleted by replacing it with another OEM BMW part from an older generation, which I cannot recall. If your doing s CDV delete you need to put something there in place, unless something has changed on the G8x.

My experience with CDV delete is only on my Z4M because I did not do it to my F87 comp. Anyway, it was most evident for me modulating the clutch from a dead stop and in reverse, it just lets you close the feedback loop a bit more easily and modulate it more accurately. It didn't really have a big effect on shifting once moving in my opinion. I would recommend it, but wouldn't say it was a life changing modification. I know what you mean about the shifting at WOT, because even before the CDV delete my Z4M engaged a lot more crisply than my F87. I can't say if a more restrictive CDV is the reason or it's the design of the clutch, pressure plate, etc.

Had Rogue SSK installed and CDV deleted. It’s an extreme change but kinda spectacular. Will need more time to assess as I’m still trying to push the lever too much. It’s significantly shorter throw and super crisp/notchy. Very little play. Even left/right movement takes more effort. There’s even slight audible click. Wish I could convey better here. The CDV part I’ll need to try more aggressive driving later tonight. It’s definitely different as my release in 1st was a bit off the whole drive. Less leeway for sure. I’m a lifelong MT driver so I’ll figure it out quickly, but clutch release is different. https://www.instagram.com/stories/ts...Q1ZGUxMzBkMA== |

I did just a CDV delete, it is just removing a small valve from inside the connector, much like the F8x cars. I’ve had many BMWs and always do this, it just feels much more natural.

I’ll post a link how to do it, but it’s very easy, pinch the clutch line at the secondary, pull the clutch line from the secondary, take a small wood screw and insert it into the secondary where the line was, thread it into the rubber washer and the metal valve, pull out. Reconnect line, release the vice grip pinching the line, bleed system, party. Pulling the valve was a bit tricky but after a few tries it came right out. I’ve done this on a few e36s, my zhp, e90 and now this car, and it just makes it more natural, coming from my 1LE it was 100% needed for me. https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1#post24926592 |
