G87 M2 Ohlins Road & Track



We recently flew out to the USA to modify a total of eight BMWs for the Bimmers vs The World show, including this amazing G87 M2 finished in Zandvoort Blue.



This example was already running the Edition 1 carbon kit from MHC LDN - previously supplied by ourselves. To compliment the kit, you’ll notice the owner is running a set of Apex VS-5RS forged alloy wheels which look stunning against the blue paintwork.

Next on his list was a set of Öhlins Road & Track coilovers to not only transform the car’s handling but also give it the drop in ride height it desperately needed.

The first thing to note is that the Öhlins road & track kit doesn’t come pre-assembled. We found it pretty straightforward to put together each corner thanks to the instruction manual available online. We have added a download link on our own website if you’d like to take a look.



First, we needed to deactivate the OEM electronic damper control system using the KW EDC delete kit: https://r44performance.com/products/...er-control-edc



By deleting the EDC system, you prevent any error messages when changing suspension. The KW kit is great and it can be used for installing a range of aftermarket suspension kits.

A cool feature of the Öhlins road & track kit is the adjustable stiffness. Öhlins utilize their unique Dual Flow Valve (DFV) technology which allows you to set your suspension to race mode with a turn of a knob. This means you can drive to the racetrack in comfort, switch to maximum stiffness for your trackday, and then drive home again in the softer setting - the best of both worlds. This means Öhlins didn’t need to compromise on damper stiffness to make the coilovers practical for the road.

Crucially, the Öhlins road & track suspension kit is corrosion salt spray tested (ISO 9227) for those of you located by the water or in colder & wetter climates. They are also supplied with a 2-year warranty for peace of mind.

Öhlins recommends a lowering of 25mm at the front and 20mm at the rear although this seems to be a general recommendation for the G80 M3, G82 M4 and G87 M2. We lowered the customer’s car by 40mm all round as the M2 sits higher than the other G8X vehicles from the factory, especially at the front.







The customer was very happy with the level of drop and will likely continue to play around with the adjustment to meet his personal preference.

We understand coilovers aren’t for everyone - springs and spacers are a much more cost effective way of achieving the perfect ride height if you’re not looking for the adjustabilty or advanced technology that comes with a coilover kit like this one.
