Hunted the new BMW M2 2023, first spy photos of the new compact sports car

The new generation of the BMW M2 has just started its testing program. These are the first spy photos of the BMW M2 2023, the successor to a compact sports car that has a very high bar to overcome. Completely camouflaged, the four spherical exhausts is one of the details that has given it away.

These are the first spy photos of the new BMW M2 Coupé. The Munich brand barely accumulates six months in the development of the new generation of the compact coupe, already launching the first prototypes of the most radical and sporty version, a clear indication that BMW has stepped on the accelerator in the development of the entire range.

These early images show one of the prototypes of what is the first sports model in the BMW M offering, with the same level of camouflage as conventional versions. Seen from the front, there is not a single detail in sight that certifies that this is the new BMW M2 2023,with the net meshes covering the lower section of the bumper. Something normal as it is an earlier stage of development in this particular model, nor are rearview mirrors provisional.

The side view of the future BMW M2 Coupé 2023 saves the proportions of the current model but the alloy wheels of multiple thin spokes that are typical of BMW M are already a very differentiating and special element, as well as the large brake discs that are seen on the front and rear axles, all perforated. One more indication that we are not faced with the sports variant of M Performance of the BMW Series 2 Coupé range.

It is the rear view that definitely gives away the prototype of the future BMW M2 with the four spherical exhausts, grouped into twopairs, letting the large silencer beneath the bumper. In addition, from the rear view you can also see the widenest of the front and reartracks, with the classic fins more "fat" to cover up larger alloy tires and rims.

Under the bodywork of the future G87,there is a shortened version of the CLAR propulsion platform of the older brothers, so both the Coupé Series and this sporty future will feature the driving dynamics and tuning of the chassis of the new M3 and M4. And, of course, also the same six-cylinder, 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engine, which will offer a maximum power of 450 hp. The German firm will also offer the "Competition" and "CS" versions by 2025.

I like the rear 3/4 shots. The front end looks longer. Not as squat as the F87.

Very excited for this car, and have huge hopes for it. The long countdown finally begins.

Agreed, very excited for this car! I've been on the fence about getting an M2C, but I think this may be worth waiting for?

Love my OG and plan on hanging on to it for a long time, but I am SUPER excited to see what they do with the G87.

Who knows, maybe I'll have 2 generations of M2s in the garage!

Should be excited, wish I was excited but the whole M3/M4 experience and recent M2 leaks have put paid to any of that.

Just going to be another massive disappointment from Munich. Especially if the same design teams are involved.

Looks like a nice size and well proportioned, looks like an older 3 Series. The new 4 Series is now the size of the old 6 Series. The outgoing M2 to is just too small for me or a small family.

BMW bigger and heavier is not always better!

BMW now is the chance to rectify the new M3/M4 botch job. It better have a nice looking front bumper/facia!

Hope this new M2 has M xDrive as an option!

Looks like they maybe ironed out the rear end profile. If so, welcome change.

X-Drive would be clutch too.

Fuel cap door is still rectangular instead of circular.

Interesting that the C-pillar is camouflaged: is BMW M toying with the Hofmeister kink or considering the idea to affix a BMW logo (as on the BMW 3.0 CSL and 3.0 CS and CSL Hommage) ?

Recently the X2 also got this feature as a change for the sake of change ("For true distinction, the BMW emblem has been repositioned next to the Hofmeister kink on the C pillar. Just another case of breaking the rules.").

Just remember that it is scheduled to go into production in December 2022. Still a long road ahead to a final version.

Highly doubt it will have xdrive

Seems like they want to keep this model more "pure" then again it's competition has AWD

Looks like normal front grill

This thing will probably steal a lot of M3/M4 sales and people will have lots of money left over to mod it.

I can't tell if those are reflections on the window, or if that is a curved dash display in front of the steering wheel similar to the iX/i4.

If this has 6MT, RWD, no ugly front grilles/looks, HUD and adaptive suspension, this would be BMW's best car in the lineup bar none!

Hopefully they learned their lesson from before and give it a CF roof and M Mirrors as standard.

If previous hints are true, the front grills will not look like the normal 2er but will be akin to the CSL hommage... not as tall as the G80/G82 but taller and more vertical than what we've seen leaked on the normal 2er.

I also see either a power dome-type of hood feature, or a hood scoop a la early 2000s mustang GT
