GPS issues?

New M2 and I’m having an issue with CarPlay navigation.

While the onboard navigation is fine, when I use Apple Maps or Waze, I am having an intermittent error where my location is off a half mile or so. Waze freaks out and starts placing me on random side streets while I’m really on the freeway.

When I look at my car’s position on the MyBMW app, it can be off 100 feet or 1/2 mile.

The error only happens in some areas but not others and seems repeatable.

I figure there is a software issue. The car has accurate positioning on its internal map but is sending incorrect info to my phone.

looks more like an gps error fro, your cellphone..

turn off bluetooth and operate waze/Apple Maps on your iPhone and check if location is correct while driving ..

.if correct.. try to restart the Phone - clear the car/ phone from bluetooth list and reconect them

if still not correct check your settings for location at the phone

Unfortunately this seems to be a fairly common issue with iDrive 8 and carplay navigation apps. There are a lot of threads on the other BMW forums reporting similar issues.

Thanks for the info.

After turning off wifi and Bluetooth, the phone corrects and position is accurate. When I reconnect to CarPlay, position is off again.

Tried restarting iPhone and deleting/reconnecting to car but same problem.

Looks like I’ll only have to wait a month. Sounds like the problem has been around for almost a year.

Pretty annoying issue. You can hold down the volume button to reboot iDrive and it'll fix the location problem until the next time you get it

This happened to me yesterday. I was on the interstate, but both Waze and Google maps had me on a side road and kept trying to recalibrate my directions. I restarted both apps, restarted my phone and the issue still persisted.

Please report back if any fix has been applied to fix this issue. thanks!

It’s intermittent but happened again this morning driving to work. Supposedly the OTA update is rolling out but I haven’t received it yet.

I just dropped off my M2 for the 1200 mile service this morning.

I haven’t received the OTA update yet so I asked if they would do it at the dealership.

The advisor seemed sceptical but “would take a look”.

No update for my car. April 13 build date. Hard reset of the iDrive does nothing to fix it. This is incredibly disappointing, and quite annoying. As if I needed another reason not to like iDrive 8.

No update for me. No idea on build date, but have had it since early April. I believe it shows 11/22 version or something close.

The GPS issue is intermittent. No rhyme or reason. Rebooting phone and iDrive don't always fix the issue.

Just bought my 23 M240iDrive on Monday & I have this exact issue when using waze - in service date is 7/31/23.

Sounds like the non-M 2 series cars have received an update that fixes the issue. I’m still on my as delivered 11/2022.44 version of iDrive in the M2 and I still have the issue.

It’s very frustrating.
