I know because a friend of mine has a M5 and he always tells me about yours I guess you knocked on his door once because you saw his car and wanted to hear his Akra exhaust. When I get my M4 we should do a few highway pulls would love to see by how much your beast pulls away. Should be fun. |

The straight line speed is still in contention but its nice to see some affirmation that what we have been saying about track time is indeed correct... but we sort of knew this anyway.
"For those obsessed with numbers, BMW says this M4 coupe will lap the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife a full 15 seconds quicker than its predecessor (and five seconds quicker than the current F10 M5)" |

Car and Driver rates M5 at 3.7 standard and 3.6 for M5 CP. M3/4 going to be close/identical 0-60 to M5 CP and almost certainly faster than standard M5. Keeping the trend above:- M6 CP > M6 > M5 CP > M3/M4> M5 £101,000> £95,000 > £81,000 > £59,000 > £74,000

I have absolutely ZERO idea why this thread just popped up on my notifications, however, I might as well update it with a big ole I told you so and correct the straight line acceleration rankings:
M3/4 > M6 > M5 .. pretty much as I predicted. I think this is true regardless of the source you pull up, as long as its the same source with all 3 measurements.

They shouldn't but post that a M4 is faster than a M5/M6 in a straight line and you'll see owners make sure you get your facts straight.

I have m4 and m6. Different kind of cars. M4 much sportier, m6 touring car. I prefer to drive the m4, but trust me the m6 IS faster in a straight line. No doubt.

Quarter-mile/standing kilometer times are the only way to determine the quicker car. Time to speed in no way correlates to time to distance, and time to distance is the only thing that counts in a drag race. Near as I can tell, the M5/M6 cars are slightly less traction-limited than the M4 off the line and in the lower gears, leading me to believe that the bigger, "slower" car might well be ahead at 60, regardless of times to that speed. |
