LCI in Spring 2025.

Time will tell whether it will be a 'switch' in Summer 2024 or whether the base model and Competition model will be allowed 'co-existence'.
TBH I'm getting sick of all these games they play by limiting interior and exterior colors, options that may only be offered on Competition models, possibly getting rid of the base model, etc. Really bothers me that they're continuing this nonsense for the 2nd generation of the M2. They don't do this with the M3/4, at least not in the US, but they keep doing it with the M2. I really don't understand the ideology around it being it's an entry level M car. Seems like a good way to drive new customers away and tick off existing ones.

My 2022 M240i G42 was delivered in Feb with zero issues apart from the well documented dull suspension thud at certain speeds.

The only issue I can see the G87 having is Idrive 8,what a hideous downgrade to idrive 7 that thing is..

Just out of curiosity, what are some of those issues?
Interior Rattles, thumping from steering column, funny noises from the transmission, odd buzzing from asd..

Honestly nothing that's a deal breaker..

I just hate noises in the interior that I know aren't supposed to be there.

Whether the F87 M2/M2C scenario of 2018 will be repeated in Summer 2024 (G87 M2C replacing the G87 M2), or whether BMW will allow both the base model and Competition model to co-exist from Summer 2024 onwards, remains currently unknown.

But a switch/replacement as in 2018 would make sense from a financial perspective for BMW: BMW will charge a higher price for the G87 M2C (premium model - more power and features), closer to the current M3/M4 base price. Car companies are no charities.

As the F87 M2/M2C is a very good car, many current owners (including yours truly) will prefer to keep enjoying their F87 M2 cars in pristine condition for some time and may give the G87 M2C a closer look once released (Summer 2024), or even wait for the F87 M2C LCI (Spring 2025), as one of the potential successors. So IMHO it would make sense to assume that BMW aims with the G87 M2C at (also) reeling in a part of the existing F87 M2/M2C customers (with the chance of 'upselling': a customer visiting a dealership for a G87 M2C and in the end ordering a G80/G82 M3/M4).

To avoid any misunderstanding: a personal choice pro F87 M2/M2C, rather than a choice contra 2023 G87 M2. Speaking for myself: the G87 M2 is no considerable incentive for me - my 2020 F87 M2C is sufficiently gratifying for my purposes for the next couple of years. The talent for being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, instead of what you don't have. And patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.

I don't have the F87 anymore and I don't mind waiting for the LCI. But that doesn't mean I like to get jerked around either.

It's absolutely criminal the G42 M240i (which I currently own so I have the right to bitch lol) has more options available to spec with than the G87 will

So criminal there has to be some kind of law against it

Can we start a class action lawsuit in the international criminal court ?

If the G87 lifecycle goes the way of F87 and the base is discontinued. I could see the Comp not getting such a big price jump, $2-$3k at most. It reality the G87 Comp will probably just consist of a small power bump(still offering both trans), ext black pack, M3/M4 seats, new color options. Big ticket items like the carbon buckets and roof remaining options. The F87 OG M2 changeover to M2comp got what was equivalent to an engine swap and msrp only went up $5k. While also adding M3/M4 seats, carbon strut brace, new wheel design, exterior refresh, etc. Could be a situation where early adopters are ticked off, but new buyers get value.

Circumstances were different back then. BMW was required to discontinue the F87 M2 sporting the N55 engine prior to Sep 1, 2018 because of EU emissions regulations. AFAIK, BMW reshuffled plans: the planned "BMW M2 CS" featuring the S55 engine got rebaptized "BMW M2 Competition" (a new variant name). Exit N55 M2 - Enter S55 M2C. Selling the F87 M2C at a very interesting price-point (excellent value for money) as entry-level BMW M car, wasn't planned. The F87 M2C sold very well, for all the right reasons.

Of course, it would be nice if BMW would also offer the G87 M2C from Summer 2024 onwards for a fistful of dollars extra compared to the base G87 M2. But I expect the G87 M2 to be offered for a bag of dollars extra. BMW can afford this, as the M2 has built a reputation in the meantime + good luck in finding a similar package for the same money elsewhere.

Fully aware of circumstances behind the switch to S55.
