Seeing them all and this goes especially for black color...M4 is a lot easier to confuse for 4-series. M3 is more muscular, has a 4 series lights plus M bumper which makes it much more distinguishable than 3-series car.

You sound like a 335 or 435 would be fine for you, I track my performance cars so my experience is different

I'll just say if you end up buying an RS5, you'll be disappointed pretty quick. Carry on

A quarter of the reviews listed on this forum include reviewer comments with the words "sounds like a diesel" as part of the article.

Well, you can forget all that. The new car is fitted with a turbocharged straight six. Turbocharging? In an M car? That’s like putting gravy on an ice cream. - Jeremy Clarkson, discussing the S65 and then S55 M3 engines. |

As for the OP thinking a tuned 335 will offer the same experience- go for it and save yourself a lot of cash- I'm sure you'll be happy with the car. Unfortunately for me I've owned both so I'm enlightened and wouldn't be happy with a tuned 335.

I mean, a radical idea I know but..... (FWIW, doesn't sound anything like a diesel. To me. To you? Who knows? And why would it matter to me, or to you what I say?) |

its because the F80 guys cant really "twist" this part of the OP`s thoughts. The F80 simply is not going to be known for having a great sounding engine/exhaust. its just another BMW Turbo straight 6, but hell at least it as a lot of torque

I think the argument is more do you want the top performance car available or do you want a semi-performance car that's also comfortable and perhaps better bang for the buck. I think the M4, RS5, C63 lose some comfort over their 335, S5, C350 counterparts. You gain tremendous performance but also at a tremendous price that depending on your driving style you may never fully get to appreciate to make it worth it. It's not a logical decision but an emotional one. I think without question the S5 is loads better than the 335i or C350 or even 435i if you don't need the top performance category.
But that said, if you do decide to get the top performance car then I'd go with the M4 simply because it's the newest gen. That doesn't mean I think it's better than the RS5 or C63, (it's better at some things, worse at other things) but it is NEWER. Though the downside is that because it's newer it hasn't been as validated in terms of reliability as much as the RS5 or C63. I prefer the looks the of the RS5 slightly b/c I think it looks more exotic and it has exceptional presence in person. The V8 of either the C63 or the RS5 sound better than the M4. The RS5's weak point is it's steering is numb. The C63's terrible gas mileage and lack of dual clutch would rule it out for me. Interior is a matter of personal preference. Engine is also a matter of personal preference. All 3 of these cars feel crazy fast no matter what the stat sheet says (actually they all hit 0 to 60mphs in the 3.8-3.9s range). The C63 has torque and top end rush. The M4 has torque but no top end rush - arguably the engine most like a tuned 335i. The RS5 has top end rush but not that much low end torque (similar to an e92 M3 but not as lacking in torque). That's just my 2 cents. New C63 comes out in a few months. Lexus RC F is almost here. RS4/RS5 probably won't be out for another 3 years. Lol honestly I'd get a Cayman GTS if I had another car. That Cayman GTS is the best and is the newest. Nice problem to have, isn't it? |

That's like saying the E30 M3 was just another BMW straight 4 or the E46 M3 was just another BMW staright 6. Those are really ridiculous comments and as stated before, three fourths of the F80/F82 guys like the sound.

I was never disappointed with any BMW I owned... Just got bored with DCT and SMG. Audi... It's a disappointment. But then. What am I saying... You know me personally since we were in the kindergarten.

Now that is Insight!
I love your response! Too easy to get 'opinions and feelings' from people who neither know or understand you/us/me. I want objective data and information- not conjecture, opinion, feeling, innuendo, rumor. I can make my own decision, too, instead of ending up coming away with a voice in my head 'I told you so.' Too much blather, not enough 'real.' And I NEVER mean to impugn anybody's integrity!

THIS RIGHT HERE!...plus ONLY you (and other M owners) will know the diff between the two. It won't turn heads bc it's simply TOO similar body wise (blah, blah, blah about wider, lower, etc) to the 4 series. Unless you are tracking it, you will only see it as more powerful 4 series. Save your money, or wait until the Lexus RC-F comes out. This is a good question, but you won't get a quality answer here BC ITS A M4 FORUM my friend.

I drove the M3. I loved everything about the car except the sound. A neighbour of a friend of mine owns a SO M4. That's what my friend had to say - " You expect to hear a better sound from such a wide and aggressive looking car". He drives a Honda CRV.
