G87 vs C8

Someone please do a comparison video! I had a C8 and very fast but G87 feels as strong.

Those two cars are completely unrelated, lol.

Yeah.

One is a relatively refined 4-seater, daily driver with front engine RWD. MT available. Reasonably practical.

The other is a freakin Vette. 2 seats, mid-rear engine RWD. DCT only. Not a daily driver, nor practical in any way.

Not sure why you would cross-shop these two cars.

I wouldn't discount the C8 as not being a good daily driver. It's not as practical as the G87, sure, but the suspension tuning on the C8 is very refined for a sports car.

the only place the M2 gets close is 1/4 mile trap speed. So if all you do is just punch in a straight line from a roll.. i guess the M2 might feel as fast?

otherwise the C8 Z51 is better everywhere. even has the mag ride. better engine placement. dct box. broader power band. lighter. etc etc.

For sure, ride has improved on vettes (yay, GM magnets!), but cabin space, storage, visibility and engine/road noise have not.

I'd say it's pretty marginal as a daily driver. Tolerable, but not "good." IMO of course.

Probably depends on how you define close. C8 traps at 123 stock, M2 probably is gonna trap closer to, what, 115-118 ish? (Unfortunately we don't have any properly instrumented runs yet. AFAIK)

The C8 is gonna beat the the M2 on every track metric I can think of. As it should! It's a mid-engine 2 seater optimized more for the track than the street.

The M2 is the car for me, but I'm not gonna pretend it's a C8. That would be silly.

motortrend ran a 11.8 @ 120mph with the M2
they got 11.1 @ 123mph with the C8 z51

3mph still means your getting walked on a roll. but not terribly.

And it has a two trunks like a Boxster. Multiple buddies in my neighborhood own them - they are comfortable cars.

The htc c8 I build (weekly) comes to $84k. The M2 I build comes to $68k. I’m empty nesting and can daily anything. That $16k is a nice chunk of change to me but do yourself a favor and try out a few C8s I really love them.
