What do you think of this PPF attempt?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hi everyone,

before I had my car done in full Xpel PPF, another company had an attempt to do a front half.

The company is L&H Wrap Garage in Sydney.
https://lhwrapgarage.com.au/

Pictures below - do you think this person has any formal training?
The supplier of the film apologised profusely and will make sure this does not happen again via this installer.

He was recommended to me by a friend, unfortunately in Australia, there is no protection for consumers so I've been stitched up and lost AU $5500.

I politely requested a refund and we go our separate ways, he point blank refused and said legally he has the right to redo it.
(I am aware that this is correct for legitimate businesses) - His facility has a couple of stick on strip lights on the wall.

Obviously, there is no way he would be going near the car again. It's lucky the car wasn't destroyed.

I even paid for ceramic coating of wheels that he did not complete, yet refuses to refund this component too.

He PPF'd over a bold, straight over sensors and every panel has glue marks from multiple attempts at re-positioning.

Scorch marks, cracks, countless debris under film, bubbles, jagged hand cut curves are the main features. when pre-cut Suntek PPF was paid for.

OMG... I am sorry to learn of your predicament...
You really should be given some kind of compensation for this level of work quality

I understand, but did you pay before the service was performed or after? I don't pay for any work performed until the work is complete and acceptable. I would imagine you have to have some sort of recourse as a consumer to get your money back.

Exactly, it was redone by the premier shop in Sydney and is incredible now.

I paid a 50% deposit and then balance on collection.

This was my first PPF experience, I had a quick look over it in his dimly lit inadequate facility (huge red flag in hindsight).

I did not know it was possible for an installation standard to be so bad by a so called professional. I thought it was more a case of it being done or not - but I know a lot more now, of course.

I took the car home, parked it up for 5 days (doing the right thing) and it wasn't until then I had a proper look at it, and felt sick to my stomach.

I had all the film ripped off 5 days later.

Was that done by a drunk partially blind monkey? That’s the worst PPF job I’ve ever seen. I’d be worried they might have also cut into the paint when cutting the PPF.

Thankfully no damage was done. I told him that the guys that re-did it said it was the worst they had ever witnessed in the industry.

This is without a doubt the worse PPF install I have ever seen. I DIY my own ppf on my last 2 cars. The M2 bumpers are a bitch to install but this is something else. The first time I ever tried to install ppf is 10x better than this clown. A 2nd or 3rd chance will not improve anything, he is a hack.

You should have contacted me.

I could do the same work for $2750, a 50% savings.

That’s not acceptable… hard to believe they even thought it ok to hand over the car to you like that…

You should negotiate for them to do it again as you stated with the condition that if the re do is not perfect then full refund…

Good luck with it 🤞

FYI… I just had my G87 full PPF and ceramic coated by ShiningCar in Melbourne… absolute perfection in both the work and customer service cost $8k (for your reference)

Thanks for the reply.

There was no way L&H Garage were going to touch my car again, that would be insanity right? (the definition).
He has zero ability and he actually assessed my areas of concern in person 2 days after I collected it (scorch marks, jagged edges, cracks and lots of debris under the film, particularly on the carbon roof) and he told me verbatim "this is the best I can do, it's a hand done job". He wanted to redo the bits that were falling off.

According to him the job is not complete until after a 2 week check. If it's rubbish from the beginning, then it's rubbish.

I also wanted my mirrors done, he got half way through one and that was it. He couldn't do it.

Also, if this is pre-cut, why is it hand cut?

The film was only on for about 2 weeks, I had it ripped off and then the whole car done at Platinum 1 in Sydney for a similar cost to what you mentioned, wow, what an operation that is. Slick as it gets. That is the silver lining, that I ended up with an amazing result.

you might not be able to get your money back from this scam artist but you should definitely destroy him on every online review site possible so he doesn't get much more business. Nobody who sees a 1 star review with some of these pictures attached would go anywhere near him

Good comparison of a normal PPF application vs what I got originally.

Sorry you had that experience, Lex.

Tell me Lex, how long did Platinum 1 take to complete the job?

They did the whole car plus ceramic coating of body, wheels and calipers in about 5 days. They are really lovely guys and went above and beyond.
