Okay fellas- this one goes out to my fellow 6MT go-ers but more than welcome ZF8 opinions as well.

Auto Rev-Match: Greatest creation or worst?
What’s your opinion?

I ask this because I find myself smiling like a kid, mindlessly downshifting into corners without having to worry about any sort of heel-toe.

It’s F’ing awesome, don’t get me wrong. But isn’t this exactly the same sort of automation enthusiasts stray away from? Hence why we drive manuals? I mean this damn thing is so perfect, it’s a cheat code.

I wouldn’t say it’s perfect for the track, but for road enthusiasts/touring and daily drivers, this thing is so flawless.

I’ve literally gotten so bad at heel toe’ing and double clutch at this point that I just keep auto rev match on and drive.

Curious as to what others think? I honestly love and hate it at the same time.

Oh and spoiler for anyone who is waiting on their 6MT order- auto rev match is sweet. Get ready to become the laziest manual driver ever. lol.

I love the auto rev matching! I thought my car enthusiast self would think it's not pure, but it is great on this car. I will always leave it on.

Likewise! I love it. It’s too perfect. I hate that I’m not a true enthusiast at this point while preferring to leave it on, but oh well.

Blessing and a curse. After getting lazy with auto rev match on my F87 for a number of years, I recently picked up an E92 and was quickly reminded how far my shifting skills have deteriorated. It’s embarrassing.

Life is short. Drive what makes you happy. If that’s a pseudo-autonomous Tesla with all the nannies, great! If it’s a fully analog car from the 70’s, that’s also great.

If you drive the “right” vehicle, you might get approval from online gatekeepers or enthusiasts at the meet-up, but if the car doesn’t bring YOU joy, is that trade worth it?

Does rev match work on upshifts also?

There is a bit of rev hang obviously, but maybe a freer flowing exhaust would help with rev hang?

It does not. My last G87 I changed the air filters in the intake and de-charcoaled them coupled with a mid pipe and I noticed a decent change in rev hang.

Find myself downshifting more and at higher RPMs just because I can and the engine sounds cool.

I like having it but only have it on my m1 set up and I mostly drive on m2 which is Sport everything. Usually I prefer to blip the throttle myself when downshifting. I can’t think of anywhere that I’m coming into a corner that fast and braking so late on public street that I need to heel toe. And double clutching is for old cars without syncros.

My 7Mt Bronco also has rev match downshift with the Ford Performance tune which is kind of nice.

I am personally not a fan but have been driving manuals for 30+ years. BMW pedals are set up for perfect heel-toe'ing (dare I say better than Porsche) and the perfect heel-toe'd downshifts are the best (and in the BMW its ball of foot and head of 5th metatarsal-ing so way easier than heel toe-ing). In the F80 you couldn't turn off auto-rev match except in Sport+ and that was the sole reason that I tuned my car, to turn off rev-match in Sport, I left it on in economy. I'm glad the M2 lets you just turn it off.

If I were auto-crossing however I would turn it on because there is no way you can keep up with the autos and get good times otherwise. The rev match is so perfect that on limits into a turn you won't upset your weight shift with a poorly blipped shift. That might be my issue....the rev-match is really good, to your point!....but once you consistently heel toe your downshifts in these it becomes entirely second nature and so rewarding.

My M2 is a driver, and the auto rev match is helpful when you are just doing "routine" driving. It is easily turned off, so not a big deal.

I have driven sticks for a long time also, and initially it was a problem as I was fighting the auto system by manually doing it myself.

I don't think using for a lot of regular driving weakens my reflexes that much. I switch from automatics to manuals to motorcycles (some that also have rev matching, some that don't) regularly.

I thought the rev hang was because of the turbos? I maybe wrong..,

Well said! Completely agree with the angle of footing when manually blipping also.

I've only driven manuals, but didn't even hear about heel-toeing until my second car. I learned the basics, thought it was cool, but never really found myself in a situation where I thought I needed it. So, I just did it once in a while just to remind myself I have the basics, but it never really became second nature or anything like that.

My 3rd car (still my current car) has the auto-rev matching. Took a bit to get used to, but then in short order, found myself just expecting it and essentially, my heel-toe career has ended.

Now, waiting on my 4th car (the G87 in manual), and I can say that for my driving purposes, I am good with the rev-matching. As others mentioned, it's cool that you can turn it off and go back to heel-toeing, which I may do just to do it.

But I'm not tracking or anything, so the only time I'm "losing" is negligible.

This is what M1/M2 buttons are made for in my opinion. I don’t think anyone has or can say that the system doesn’t work well. I have it on most of the time but sometimes I just feel like having it off. I will say I feel a little more connected and the car a more responsive when I have it off. This is probably all mental because I’m not being lazy and actually paying attention to my shifts. Glad there are both options and can easily be changed in a moments notice!

I don't mind it.. It can be turned off or programed to one of my M1/2 buttons.

In part due to the turbos to keep them spinning. But even non-turbo cars exhibit a bit of rev hang. The electronic throttle is programmed when one's foot is lifted from the throttle pedal to not slam the butterfly valve to the idle stop but rather to let it close a bit less abruptly. There is some emissions benefit.

I thought it would be another unused crutch. I learned to heal and toe decades ago and do it naturally. But, I tried it and like it. I leave it on and giggle when it blips for me.
