While I love the look of the recessed grill, from this angle I agree they should’ve not made the nose so pronounced and stick out so far. It would probably look better if it sloped down sharper and followed the same trajectory of the hood line to make it appear more seamless.

And are my eyes deceiving me or do I not see reflectors?

They are not functional which is hilarious because the designer mentioned he purposely left off the fender vents because they served no purpose of functionality lol. I do wish they had the fender gills/vents, they would look nicer on a body like this since it has a longer bonnet.

This is why I can't stand the design. It looks bad and when in most pictures and lighting, there is an apparent color difference between the hood and bumper, because they are at different angles. Extremely frustrating for what should be an absolutely amazing car.

My biggest complaint regarding the M240i is no manual tranny. I would have got one if they did.

I honestly think if the G87 had a more traditional vertical grill it would transform the front end and fix most of the complaints.

This picture is telling to me, I don't know why they opted for the grill to be concaved and horizontal? Imagine the 240i grill on the M2 with an M2 badge, perfection.

Really surprised this hasn't been mentioned by more guys on here.

That being said, I'm sure there will be options in the future, so it's exciting to see what mods come.

Also, those full carbon air ducts are a game-changer, wow.

I dont think the direction of the slats is of any issue. Look atbthe beaver fronts, they are horizontal as well. As to the "roundness" or lack thereof, I would say there is little difference between the G42 M240 and G87 M2 (I have the M240, still waiting on the M2).

Again, looks are totally subjective and a personal preference to each individual so there is no right or wrong.

Well, I guess in this case you're right. I haven't seen one person complain or mention the grill design.

Was curious if anyone shared my thoughts.

Agreed. I like the way it is compared to that.

to me anyway, BMW signature kidney grill should be VERTICAL! Especially on a M car

once I get my car, this is my first mod if a reasonable priced aftermarket vertical front grill is available!
I think it looks more aggressive too!

Spent quite a lot of time looking at this car in-person and I just don’t see much to praise. It makes the G80/82 seem minimally controversial.
Looks fantastic to me.

What I did know and understand quite well is BMW's uncanny ability to design cars into the future. What I mean is, cars you think look ugly, vile, atrocious at their release (yes, you've heard all the words) and yet over time, the design grows on you, and people begin to favor that new era of styling. The G8x is a perfect example of this.

This is also the case with the G42 and my decision to purchase a 2022 M240i. When the G42 first came out, it received endless amounts of hate; mostly undeserved. Nobody gave it a fighting chance, and repeatedly, stressed the point that it would never be as good looking as the outgoing F22 generation. However, the more I looked at it, and the more I thought about all the advantages it had over the Supra for the same price (interior amenities, AWD, rear seats, etc.), I began to love and accept it for what it was. Fast forward nine months into ownership, and I've never been happier with a car. It checks, quite literally, every box. For reference, I came out of a 981 Boxster S and a modified 440i, so the bar was high you could say.

Now lets get back to the G87. Unlike the G42, the design of the G87, in pictures, had not grown on me at all. It didn't matter the angle, the color, the wheels, anything. It just looked off. Not ugly, just off. Something about the design from every angle didn't work. For goodness sake, the XM grew on me within a [...]
I will say I agree with you on many levels.

I kind of compare my thoughts to when I first saw the S550 Mustang. I was like, "Meh." But, over time it grew on me and seeing them in person even more so. I loved the looks of my 2022 Mustang GT and it was hard to part with it.

As for the G87, I actually liked it when I first saw pictures. But when we went to the dealership to look at the AW / Cognac / CF Roof / Bi-color wheels one they had we absolutely loved it both inside and out. It really is a good looking car. And I've received several compliments / 👍 in the 400+ miles I've driven it around town.

About the only thing I would say they need to do is body color paint the base of the inlet below the bumper to complete the look of the front ( yes I know I can buy a part to complete that look).

RW Carbon makes a grill that is reasonably priced and IMO looks pretty good.
