If the base, $64-$77,000 G87 is equal to or slightly improved over the limited edition, $90-$100,000 F87 M2 CS, then I'm overjoyed.

Plus, it has quite a bit of new tech that F87s (including mine) are missing (and a lack of rear axle hop that is really unsettling on fast driving on twisty roads).

Seems like you need to get your butt-dyno recalibrated because the major reviews and dyno results disagree. Even the F87C's detuned S55 on California 91 provides significantly more torque below 4500rpm in a lighter package. G87 looks to have a MUCH better curve overall, but low end torque is not improved compared to last gen.

Exactly. I was also surprised to read the OP's comment. The S58 lags in low RPM, but has a linear power band and feels somewhat like an NA motor. The B58 and S55 have more low end power and are unabashedly turbo engines in character.

Lol WUT??

Nobody needs data or video to give an opinion. LOL

Yes that’s correct

However M2.2 is quite far from the 997.1 GT3’s

He has the 8-speed automatic, which works better with the S58 powerband. The car feels more lively more of the time with it.

Eager to see your opinion when both are on summer tyres. Is the G87 on Michelins (assuming PS not C2)?

Powerband is powerband regardless of the transmission mated to it.

There's a reason E46 M3 guys swapped in the 4.10 Dinan final gear back in the day. Powerband is powerband, gearing is gearing.

It's like a modern e46 M3 CSL vs. e92 M3 debate

Both are great cars. The e92 was too fat and didn't look as good. Kind of like... what people say now.

Of course, hindsight is 20-20. Maybe BMW comes out with some dreck in twenty years that will make the G87 look like a classic lol

Not really... yes the engine makes the same "powerband" but the transmission is what delivers it to the wheels, and that is what you feel from the seat of your pants...

Everyone is saying the "reviews" disagree with his statement (inferring them to be more correct than his "opinion"), yet most of the reviews state the auto version felt much better suited to the engine tune and power delivery and made it much "livelier"... Which he has in his G87, and his CS is 6MT.

So you either believe the reviews in whole (not just the part of saying no torque down low), or just believe what he is stating as his own feelings and don't compare them to reviews.

F87 is incredible and once wound up it flies but the pulls from down below just don’t have the punch of the G87. But man it will fly too.
Are you sure you didn't get these two reversed? Saying the G87's low end torque is frightening is exactly opposite of every other review I've watched/read.

Not a scientific conclusion just a “feeling” and opinion. May be because of the aggressiveness I had auto at or any number of things.

F gen looks better
G gen drives better

Seems to be the trend and 100% should be the case for sure of driving but a bummer they are not building an exterior design aesthetic that is near universally revered.

Automatic versions of most sportscars are faster than their manual counterpart for at least 10+ years. While there is no doubt that automatic is faster, manual is more fun period.

Depends on your fun. If your fun is engagement then yeah. But if your fun is speed and laptimes then no it's not.
